Destin. Thanks. I talked it over with my installer and all connections are going thru the harness. That's what he said also. We're gonna run the Metra plugs so it's a simple connection. Tues. next week and we're golden.

Good choice with the metra harnesses. It makes everything so much cleaner and easier.

I install a crap ton of power packs. Cheap and powerful. The factory radio is something useless like 5-7 watts per speaker and the power packs are 45Wx4. Your metra pigtails would make the install very easy. cut it back in half and do your radio side into the power pack inputs and the vehicle side to the outputs. Power, ground, and accy are already right there.

For the hideaway, I would probably tap it on the radio side so its not getting the high voltage from the power pack.

I personally would say look into the new Kicker Key amp. same power (45x4) but a ton more features. EQ mic included and does a whole auto-eq and timing process.

If I hadn't got the Power Pack open box for 90 bucks that might have been a good idea.

20A circuit seems excessive for an OEM headunit. The circuit must be providing power to more than just the headunit. Aftermarket headunits put out way more power and use less current.

In my particular truck, it’s just the HU. Confirmed in wiring schematics. The radio is individually fused at 20, and there is an additional 20 used for JBL amps in those trucks with them.

But I agree. Way more than necessary. I will gladly take it though

Once again @destin_meeks shows up with the info.
    Thanks.

I have done a lot of panel building in the past so training wires to go where they should and make it look factory was what was expected of us. Just because no one else can see it doesn’t mean you should allow yourself to do sloppy work. In the Canadian electrical code you can fail an inspection just due to poor workmanship even if everything is 100% to code. My panel work was tits and second only to my conduit work.

Conduit porn is good stuff. And having experience with wires (especially thick 110/220v Romex and stuff) definitely helps. So many jobs that come in to my shop are technically wired right, but wires are just shoved under trim panels and loosely stuffed under the dash. Kills me to see lazy work

So I got my power pack installed. Works great. There is a tiny crackle in the speaker when powered up. And a teeny bit of white noise when the system is on but not playing. Had my Best Buy installer do it . Used Metra plugs male and females. All done thru the harness. Don't think he used the turn on lead. Ran power and ground thru the harness. Anything to do differently. Thanks

If I had to guess, the gains are up too high on the power pack. I’m not sure I’ve ever had them set over half way in any vehicle. I also use a SMD DD-1 to set my gains where they distort with the radio at about 75%. Takes all the guesswork out of it.

That being said, gains may be fine and it may be getting noise from something else. I typically don’t experience that, but I’m not there to look at it so who knows. I’d also make sure the dip switches on the amp are set for a high voltage input, and set to full range crossovers.

What does this mean? I understand making sure the gain isn't so high it allows "clipping" & to make sure the options are made for powering it thru an actual power lead or using the speaker level turn-on.
I'll be installing one soon using my factory HU to power Polk DB 6502 components up front & Polk DB 652 2 ways in rear doors.
    Thanks!
