Sideswiped a tree... thoughts on damage?

    Well I finally fucked up my 2-year old Taco. Got a little carried away this weekend in the backcountry ripping through sketchy trails. I swiped a tree on the drivers side while backing up. Appears to be just body damage as I drove it home 60 miles with no issue.

    Pics attached. The rear quarter panel / bed panel definitely needs to be replaced along with the rear taillight. Damage extends beyond the bed panel to the rear door. Door handle is all scraped up and the frame between the door and bed panel is also dented (which I could probably live with).

    Any thoughts on how much this will cost to fix? I’m a huge dumbass and I’m super bummed I did this to my truck I’m still paying off! The passenger side is scraped to shit, so I also need to get it buffed and waxed, although I might skip that if too expensive.

    Holy shit! I was hoping for $2-3k. Looks like it’s not getting fixed! Sure as hell ain’t reporting it to insurance.

    I did. I just lived with it and got lockers. this was my only claim in 12 years and multiple vehicles insured. my rates didn't go up. and this is why i have full coverage

    Wow really!? Maybe I should report it. I figured my rates would go way up. I don’t have any recent claims either. I just figured they’d think I was high-risk running into shit out in the backcountry!

    Mine didn't even ask how it happened. although I did tell them. I'm not saying your insurance won't go up either I'm saying mine didn't. everyone's insurance is different

    Might find a whole new bed at a salvage yard and a door. Swapping out a whole bed is a Hell of a lot easier than fussing with a bedside. Paintless dent repair might get most of that dent out of the C Pillar.

    That or flatbed it...

    looks expensive, make it a trail rig :D
    How much are 3rd gen beds? Maybe look for a totaled gray 3rd gen and swap beds? Or even bedsides if thats possible, I know nothing about third gens. The door looks like it'll buff out pretty decently tho.

    Tell your insurance the tree was falling or jumped out at you when you were passing by, do that with rocks you accidentally hit on the highway too, otherwise its a “at fault” ding on your policy.

    Most likely a new quarter panel, door skin, taillight assembly, paint the whole side, I used to do bodywork and estimate, and you are probably in the 4-6k range.. good luck
