Well that's good to hear, I didnt grow up in a military lifestyle so a lot of stuff is new to me and unknown but I have heard to 'just latch onto a senior NCO and listen to them and dont act like you know anything because you don't'. I love working on cars, used to have a vw that i modded and tracked but moved on from that car a few months ago and got the taco,, so whats the next best thing to be around the maintenance of? Aircrafts!

Where are you by the way?

Awesome! I can bring a long ass table from work, and a big igloo cooler that we can keep everything in and super cold. I think getting some 1gal jugs of water n freezing them will provide plenty of cooling with ice as well of course.

My gas mileage was terrible on the way up to Hidden Falls. Once we get close all those hill climbs kill it for me. It was definitely a good weekend though.

Met @Mrguitarguy01 (i think that's his name here) as well for a little bit and he rode with us on the trails. It was his first time wheeling up there and he did great from what I understand and even hopped in and rode with us part of the day!

Southwest Austin by way of the cyber operations (1B) career field. Retired in 2011 and moved back (Bergstrom AFB was my first duty station), and am now working as an Information System Security Officer for the VA. I went from combat comm and cyber warfare (7 deployments) to a nice, cushy, air conditioned office.

If you actually know how to wrench, you’ll do better than your counterparts. As an old MSgt who has been “issued” dozens of Lieutenants in the past, I know that the officers who know the job and trust their people to do it are the ones who succeed. They WILL try to bullshit you if they don’t trust you. Just don’t let your NCOs forget that while they know everything that needs to happen, you’re the one with actual legal authority. Being the guy in charge is easy. Give clear expectations, up front and in writing. Make sure your folks have the time, tools, training, and trust to do the job. Stay the fuck out of their way and don’t let anyone else fuck with them either. The hardest part will be letting your SNCOs help you write the awards and performance reports, and you’ll learn why when you have to rank your people from “most bestest” to “least bestest.”

Oh, and never, NEVER get caught without your unit coin. Even in the gym shower. You will get challenged constantly because butterbars are giant targets. I drank many 2Lt beers in my career, and they were aaaaaaalllllllllllll good!

Thank you so much for the advice MSgt, I love hearing from the Og's who have been around the block. I have heard that I'll do well since I do tinker around with cars. Yeah ranking sucks and everyone will get butthurt no matter what.
