Haha a camper shell for ants! I wish, i'd be done by now if it was.

I've been rearranging the shop to get started on the camper build again. In the meantime I've been designing my truck bed drawer and thinking about the (sleeping) bed mechanism and how I want that to work. A few people have suggested a flip down platform or slide out slat system - both which I'm considering. I wanted to share this other design from the Tiny House world. Perhaps I can co-opt this idea to go even more modular!

    Thoughts?

Just thought I'd post where my ideas are at currently:

Mix of the same silver and black bedliner from the tool boxes. Roof rack (already got it) on the top of the camper, LED Bar on each side to give light while setting up camp, and a homemade roll up awning that I got the idea from Mg-Rover 1 on Expedition Portal (http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/66720-Homemade-Awning)

Hey guys - got some upgrades done! Lifted and new tires! Yesterday was a long but satisfying day - my buddy and tacoma adventure partner (and master mechanic) put my new suspension lift and new tires on! Bilstein front coilovers, new upper control arms, Bilstein 5100 rear shocks with reservoir, add a leaf kit, and 265-75-R16 DuraTrac tires with 1.5" wheel spacing.

A little noisier on the road and definitely noticed a slight drop in MPG on the highway. I have a 4 cyl so it makes a difference. These are load range C, which are the lightest. Glad i didnt do load range D or E!!

In other news I've realized that for the moment I have a summer set up and when the camper is done, a more cold weather set up. I have an inexpensive ladder rack hooked up for work (contractor) but I've never been happy with how tall it is and that it isnt very modular. I've fallen in love with the Leitner Active Cargo System Rack but its too $$ for me.

Ive decided to modify my rack to work like the Leitner version - got some 1.5" 80/20 aluminum ordered this morning and did some drawings for the vertical support arms I need to make. Gonna do that his week and get it goin whenever the extruded alu arrives. Anyone selling a Leitner rack by chance??

In other news, I have a winch on the way, and waiting for Amazon Prime Day to order a highlift jack :)

Hey guys long time without an update - but to update: I had the ladder rack built and used it for a while. 14FC215B-E65A-461D-89E8-4CA77D634DD2.jpg

After a while of using it I definitely was thinking that in a non snowy climate it might be nice but wasn’t really working for me. I had to unload my tools from work every day and on snow storms shovel it out. That got old fast. So I decided to buy this...

Am ARE DCU contractor cap with dual barn doors! Used in NJ for $700 - a steal.
And so began the camper thread :)
    Since then I’ve insulated it:

    Added a fan:

    3EEF5D84-0308-4BBB-B5F5-D07AB6FAD9A6.jpg
I also designed and built a portable kitchen that is 100% waterproof, lightweight and it hangs off my brute force fan high clearance swingout. I’ll post some more pics soon as the camper build develops !

Some updates - I've been pondering over remaking the upper console to accomodate my Midland GMRS radio and add a switch plate, and I even spent a few hours in the shop tonight making some templates...but in my research I found this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toywerx-custom-overhead-console.469018/page-4 started by @HomerTaco and it got me thinking.
A bit more research and I stumbled on this - an ARB console for an FJ fitted to a Taco. Awesome! Price tag...$500 not so awesome.[IMG]

So I got on eBay and found this! $150 later and its on its way to me from Russia. Stay tuned to see how it fits!

In other news, I think ive decided on a paint scheme for the camper - heres the mockup and hopefully Ill get this going this week before and after work...Screen Shot 2018-05-31 at 7.54.44 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2018-05-31 at 8.02.57 PM.jpg

I still have it, but this has taken its place. I dont think I'm going to do the lifted roof anymore, now that I've deleted the drawer system and replaced it with the swingout kitchen and Pelican box on the Prinsu rack.

So did some big changes here and decided to go full on flatbed with a custom built box. Its a work and camping truck so its got 2 side doors and double rear doors. 2x2 steel skeleton, 1/4" Dibond skin adhered with 3M VHB tape and self tappers. Here are few more pics of it in work mode. I upgrade the rear leaf springs to a custom pack from Deaver Springs out of CA. They are the heaviest they make for a Tacoma, around 1200 lbs over stock.

I have a pair of OME Dakar HD for 2012-15 now for sale too...

More pics to come. Still need to do:
    - Dual Battery
    - Flatbed Power / Fuse panel
    - Wire flatbed accessories
    - Make new bumper for it
    - Weather seal doors
