I appreciate all who post, the info and comments are very helpful.
Just added new tires to the sport with plans for the Alpine Loop in Co in a few weeks. I welcome any trail/camping suggestions for a stock long bed in SW Colorado.
So far I have added a light bar behind the grill, CB, underbody pod lights and next week will install anytime front/rear camera system from JJ.
I’m fairly sure my Son will be asking me to drive his jeep while he trys to take my truck on his next adventure.
Great site - thanks for sharing all the knowledge.

I'll refrain from suggesting any specific trails/places but simply recommend you check out https://www.codot.gov/travel for road conditions and scenic drives and order the vacation package here: https://www.colorado.com/guide-order

Just stay away from interstates and drive the two lane roads and you should have fun.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book: https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Colora...rd_wg=Pm901&psc=1&refRID=8G7FG5Z4PFF8CJ0NB16D

I was last out in SW CO in late 2014 and this guidebook was fantastic. Hopefully there's a newer edition since then, but who knows.
I was in a stock JGC, no winch, lift, etc, and by myself, so I stuck to the "beginners" trails, which are all basically forest service roads. If you have a copilot, more experience off-roading, and/or proper self-rescue equipment, by all means go for the harder trails, but the beginner trails were great for me - the forest service roads are free camping, loads of terrific scenery, and just tough enough to weed-out the RVs, family station wagons, and sedan weekend warriors.

ps at edit: can't find my book (many things are still missing since I moved into this house), but here's one trail I remember specifically because it's "the back way" into Telluride: https://www.colorado.com/articles/colorado-hidden-gem-last-dollar-road

I'll be in my Tacoma OR, with canine copilot, in Idaho in mid-September, and I hope to find an ID-specific version of this same book series.

I can readily second the Charles Wells book (as well as his Moab series).

To elaborate on my earlier comments, Colorado is a BIG state with lots to see just about everywhere. For a first visit you may enjoy just seeing things from the pavement without trying to decide how to get back to civilization from some mountain trail. That's not a comment on your abilities, but rather a desire for you to have a positive experience the first time without a "Oh Sh*t!" moment.
