Hi guys, new to the forum. I think this question might have been answered but this could be a different question so ill give it a shot. I have a 17' pro and the BSM had stopped working a few weeks after I got it last November. I kind of blew it off because it didn't really bothered me and I use my mirrors when I lane change. That being said I went to the dealer for other maintenance and thought I might as well throw that on the list. When I picked the truck back up I was told they ran a diagnosis and the system works fine but that dirt and debris can cause a problem. That being said the system still said unavailable when I left (figured I would do a deep clean). That was about a two months ago and it still remains unavailable. Is this a problem that is on me and really is just a cleaning issue? Or is the dealership just being lazy and not fixing it? Kind of feel like they should have at least cleaned it and had it working when I left. Thanks

Dealership lazy as hell. Mine wasn't working and was fixed under warrenty. Mine said BSM unavailable on the dash. They had to replace the the whole unit cuz it wasn't registering.

Did you take the lazy turds suggestion and wash the sensors? Happened to me in another car.

Usually when I get a complaint of BSM the light won't turn on and there will be a code stored in the master or slave system. Sadly these codes are propriatary and can't be viewed without a tech stream.

Does it work some of the time? If it doesn't work at all, it's a legitimate complaint and should be resolved under warranty.

I usually have to re-calibrate them and have no further issues.

When I first got it, it worked for a week, stopped, then worked for a few days, and then hasn't worked since.

Re-book the appointment and address the service manager, this is unacceptable. Either it works or it doesn't, we can't let trucks drive away telling them its dirt causing the problem.

This really doesn’t seem like it would be a dirty sensor issue, unless you immediately took it out in some mud or something.
But I’d check off that box just to make sure.

    And welcome to tacomaworld.

I just went through this with my 2016! Mine quit randomly while driving on a snowy road to work a few months back. I tried it periodically but I had to shut it off because i got the beep and message on the dash saying the BSM are unavailable. Left if for a couple months not working.. Until it took a trip to the dealer for other work, I mentioned that to the service guys.

Their response was to say I had damage to my rear bumper (I did not) and that their diagnostic showed it was out of alignment 5 degrees and their tolerance was only 3. So they claimed it was my fault and not a warranty issue, AND even said I should take it to another dealer to hear the same thing. Even after getting the service manager they claimed that my option to fix it was to take it to a body shop for an alignment (theirs was about $200) then to get it recalibrated ($190). Needless to say I was not happy with a 1 year old truck starting to lose 'safety' options, and being told it was my fault, and it would cost $400 bucks.

A couple weeks after I picked it up i washed it and stepped on the bumper to wipe down the back windows. Whether my stepping up aligned it enough, or the wash cleaned out debris from the sensor, I dont know what it was, but they work now without an issue.

My advice is step on both sides of the bumper step and wash it, my Toyota dealer was useless and made up a story to not take accountability and had no desire to help. Dinks!

Mine stopped working, I mentioned it when I took it in for the 10k service and they said the sensors needed to be realigned, they fixed it under warranty

So I just went to the dealership for the same issue. They accused me of being in a wreck, which is a negative. Then they said they wouldn't fix it today and that I had to reschedule to have the whole system rerouted.. going in tomorrow and I am printing that info above!
