    You have several choices:
    1. Move. Yep, just move. Leave them behind.
    2. Don't get a cat, just get cat food and place it around your vehicle.
    3. Spray stuff under hood. Sometimes works, maybe.

Personally, I live in the woods and I have a bunch of critters (snakes, mice, chipmunks, squirrels, foxes, bears, deer, turkey, etc) and I utilize choice #2 above. I despise cats, but I have a lot of Fancy Feast cat food out in the garage. When I have a problem, like moles in the yard last year, I just put out cat food. *Poof* no more moles. Cats killed them. Recently a chipmunk got in my garage and a bunch of his buddies were running around. Put out some more cat food and *poof* no more chipmunks. As far as the bigger animals, I have a big dog. It can't whoop a Bear but it let's me know when they come around, and my dog loves to chase deer and turkey. Foxes don't come around either.
Even if you don't see any cats around, if you put out good cat food they will show up and take care of your problem.

That will block them right on top of your cabin filter..... In my 2006, the mice decided that door flap had to go and they completely destroyed it, and made a nest on the filter.

My wife’s first Prius (she’s on her second) attracted mice and wasps. It also had mold clog up the A/C drain hose. This all happened around the same time. After clearing out the A/C drain using a teacher-special pipe cleaner (thing was huge) I sprayed mold retardant up the tube and all over the possible dark, wet areas on the underside and under the hood. Strangely, not only did the mold not return, the wasps and mice also found it repellent. I’ve since kept my truck and Prius #2 sprayed occasionally, and no critters or mold to this day.

Your mileage may vary, some restrictions apply, void where prohibited by law.

Yep,have had this happen 2 times now with my 2011 Tacoma.

I finally made a cover out of hardware cloth(steel 1/4"x1/4" holes) and the small holes on both sides near the fenders so the mice cant get in there.

Dryer sheets, moth balls,do not work.I tried them, and finally just made a screen to block them from getting in

This is a pic of the 2nd time the mice got in my air cabin filter area. Those are baby mice and they stunk.had to take the blower motor out and spray lysol into the fan for 10-15 minutes to get rid of the smell.

My neighbors are selling and moving out of state. They keep trying to give us their cat. Explained to me that it’s a trained killer, and the sole reason that no one in the neighborhood has gophers, because it hunts and kills every single one. It also hunts snakes, lizards, mice and anything else that comes within a a 3 block radius.
Apparently it also has some magical powers, because even tho I’m allergic to cats, he told me I will not be allergic to this one.
Despite his persistent efforts, I really have no interest in taking this cat, but if you want, I will take it and send it to you if you pay shipping.

Just a tip in case you have this happen.

Before you pull out the air cabin filter, put a sheet of cardboard under where the filter is and hold it there as you pull out the filter.

That way the nest and whatever is in there will fall onto the cardboard and not into the blower fan.Ask me how i know

    :(

This what i did. You can get the hardware cloth which is a rabbit type cage material at Home Depot.Very easy to cut and fit to the opening

I'll try to take some pics tomorrow if i can remember.Be sure to block it off well, mice can squeeze into very tight areas

Just a thought. We have had major squirrel problems with my log cabin. They would get in the roof and nest. Drive me crazy. We tried everything. My wife would trap them...and then drive them 10 miles out of town. Lucky I wasn’t trapping them. Then we read that peppermint essential oil is a huge deterrent. I soaked a handful of cotton balls and stuffed them in all the suspect spots. That was two years ago and haven’t had a nesting squirrel since. Not sure how or where you would want to put it under the hood but I would def. try. And it smells good. We now have great horned owls nesting in our back yard and I haven’t seen a squirrel all spring. But not sure how your gonna get one of those.
