Wondering if there is any other use for this obdi to USB adapter? Maybe some other software that we can use to read and reset codes?

No, I mean running cracked software of the internetz. I work in IT and 90% of all warez are full of nasty stuff that I wouldn't put on my box.

Worked just fine for me... no malware or anything and it works. ?

Edit: And I also work in IT, running a global professional services group that develops and deploys all kinds of enterprise software for most of the F50 tech companies. I get the concern....

but then again, I have a cheapo windows laptop I ONLY use for tuning so I'm not too worried about the risk. no personal data is on that machine!

Yep, dongleless. And I have very little Windows/PC experience. Followed Mat's instructions, made a few missteps but quickly trial and errored my way back to the correct flashing sequence and BOOM! Successful! Even forgot to turn off my auto headlights but it flashed without issue.

so what missteps did you take, or out of sequence actions? just looking to not crash and burn once I make the leap.

 

OK, Day 1 update. I've put about 50 miles on my new tune (1.04 91) and I really like it. Around town and backroads with a few small hills - so much smoother! Throttle actually responds when you press it! Not like my M3 or STi did but definitely a big improvement over stock. Less gear dancing by a big margin! Not that it doesn't down or up shift, just not incessantly and like it doesn't know what gear it wants to be in. That's exactly it. It seems to know what gear it wants and shifts so much more appropriately. I mentioned earlier, the truck feels lighter by 500 lbs and much more athletic. I don't think more powerful or torquey is how I'd describe it (though it probably is by dyno) but more responsive, smarter engine and transmission-wise, and just more fun to drive. Highway speeds equally as satisfying, better/quicker accelerating from 55 to 75 mph, more confidence inspiring on on-ramps and improved on (mild) grades. Didn't test the sonar cruise control. Overall early impressions (I'll leave a full review in a week or so when I've really gotten used to it on the review thread) with just one day under my belt - 4 1/2 stars. Totally worth the investment, the wait, and the emotional ping-pong I went through before deciding to jump on board. So glad I did and a big thank you to Mat and all the TW encouragement!

 

Had a 2017 nissan frontier for a rental for a couple of days and wow. So much more torque than the tacoma, down low and all through out the rev range. Why Toyota... why..

 

Are people still buying/selling their tune kits? I know Mat still has to do something to allow it to run on your truck but I dont know what that costs.

If people are buying them, what are they worth? I traded my Taco in for a 4runner, planned on keeping the kit for the new rig, but I'd rather have some cash.

And I untuned the Taco. I was going to leave it so someone would be super happy, but then I wondered if they would find their way on here, buy the tune and wonder why its not making any changes!
