Need Help trying to buy a 1st gen

Has anyone ever bought or looked at a truck from G.W. Enterprises in Port Republic, VA? They have a bunch of trucks and a lot of 1st gens for sale but being on the East coast I'm worries about rust and rust cover up from dealers.

I was looking at the classifieds on this site, saw your post and joined to reply. I haven't bought one from GW but I have been to his lot, still debating on a first gen or new. The ones I looked at about month ago all looked pretty clean underneath with some looking almost new. I did not see any that looked liked you would have problems with frames or that were spray coated with thick rubbery looking undercoating. The owner told me that he goes all over to find really nice trucks, has been doing it for years and that the supply of really nice ones are "drying up". He seems like a decent guy and let me look around all I wanted without following me around and telling me how great they were and what a great deal....Its pretty cool at his lot with at least 20 of the trucks I'm interested in.

I live in Maryland and have property I'm listing for sale near Bridgewater, VA. I'll be heading down this week to the property and will be stopping at GW's on the way home, if you want me to look at a specific truck for you let me know. I hate the prices on 1st gens, but want a smaller truck, and think maybe 15gs is better spent as down payment on a new one. When I test drive the new ones I leave wanting to get a 1st gen.

 

This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for. He is a 3 hour drive from me and the prices are high but it’s nice to find one place to look at a couple trucks. IF they are really rust free, damage free.

I called them and they didn’t want to email me Carfax reports. Anyone else deal with them? I’m still tempted to make the trip...

 

You can purchase 5 carfax reports for less then 50 bucks. Carfax only reports what is reported to them. Looking at GW's site, the Tacomas look good. He also has a
reputation to protect. IMO, you can do better on price, especially buy from a private original owner. It would be wise to pay a pro, or a Toyota dealer to dissect
what you are going to pay for.

Crank thanks for the input. I agree with you but unfortunately everything in my area is a rust bucket. Trust me I would normally never buy from a dealer.

That said he has the best selection of what I can looking for in the area. If they are rust free. BTW it’s now $100 for 6 repairs.

I ended up buying a GX470, everyone wanted too much $$$ for a Taco.
