As the title says, Im looking for suggestions on upgrading my suspension. Its time for new shocks and struts so I figure if I were to ever upgrade, nows the time. (I drive a 08' Extended cab TRD Sport 4x4)

At the current time I'm looking to add maybe a 2" suspension lift and I'm leaning towards a OME set up. I have looked on here and seen some good info, but I figure id open it up to suggestion since I'm not partial to any particular thing.

    A little about my needs/wants:

-I do little off roading so I'm not looking to add anything crazy, but I do live in Alaska so by nature I need something that is capable.

-I don't want to half heart anything, so I'm not interested in doing a body lift or only spacers on top of coils. If I'm going to do something I want to do it right.

-I'm not changing my tire size, I roll with the standard 265 65r17, and I'm not adding any crazy bull bars, winches or anything like that. I have a cap on bed, thats pretty much it.

    A few concerns I have:

-does adding this little suspension lift effect the towing capacity at all? I have been told both answers so I'm looking for anything that would back or prove whatever the correct answer is.

-With any set up, how do I make sure or combat the change in angle for the cvs or drive line? This is my daily driver so I'm not looking to mess anything up, AND I do a lot of driving with my camper so I cannot have any issues.

Like I said I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what you have and what worked/didnt work for you!

    Alex

I'm looking for a lift kit as well at the moment, clicked on this thread and didn't realize it is only an hour old. Anyway, I found two basic kits but I have similar questions, either the Bilstein 5100 3" adjustable lift kit or the OME (Old Man Emu) 3" adjustable lift kit. I do a little offroading once in a while as well but mainly my daily driver on pavement, so is the OME overkill.? Or will the Bilstein kit be just fine.? Just a couple suggestions, hopefully someone can answer our questions.

From what I have found, going with an OME kit will be more of a rougher ride but better offroad. Now going with the bilsteins... the 5100 3" adjustable lift kit seems to be where I will be going but now the questions is; Do I got with the Headstrong springs.? Or pay another $50 for OME springs. Are the OME springs rougher than the HS.?

P.S. sorry to take over your thread with my questions, just thought these would be some good suggestions.

Working on it, dissent offroad racks, shift sense pro, pedal commander , ARB twin, rigid SS dually's , dual batteries, ARB fridge , 2.5 Fox coil overs wResi , 2.5 Fox rears w resi Total chaos UCA , deaver packs , Nitto trail grappler's 33" .
Lots of great information in suspension area. You will find a couple of lifetimes worth of info there.
Sounds like the bilstien 5100 with OME coils would work great for both of you .
Also get ahold of Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road ! Best prices and if you call Marie she can get all your needs covered !
    Have fun

Do you know off the top of your head if the OME coils will bring with a stiffer ride quality than stock.?

They have several to choose from, that’s where Marie will come in. After talking with you she will setup the perfect suspension for your wants and needs.
Short answer is you can get coils that aren’t stiff.

Look through that thread. This is the Bilstein 6112/5160 kit which I have. Bigger and better performance than the OME and standard 5100. For a 2nd get you can reach up to 2.5” depending on setting. It’s either this setup or get a coilover setup.

If you can wait Bilstein should have them back in stock sometime this summer.

    I’m assuming your 4wd?

Not at all this is good info! The question I have is do these kits account for the change in the angles of the cvs and all the drive line components?
