New Taco owner, total truck newb:

When the tailgate is down, how much weight can I put directly on the tailgate?

I am worried that if I stand on the tailgate and put my full weight on it while climbing into the bed (I weight 200 lbs), I will break the tailgate.

    Please pardon my ignorance.

There are vendors here that manufacture tailgate reinforcement plates. Look around and see what you think fits your needs.

Naw man. Think logically, who would sell a tailgate that u couldn't step on? Furthermore, if someone sold me one, I would bounce on that beyotch and find out as soon as possible so I could have it warrantied.

200 is no worries. My cousin and I sat on mine and drank beer all night. About 460 ish between us two.

When I had an ATV I would load it up by putting ramps right on the tailgate, me and the machine weigh close to 900 pounds. This was before I had a Tacoma, but it should handle stuff like that fine.

On a side note, I vaugely recall a truck company having an issue with tailgates falling off, anyone else remember this?
