So, just drove out a Firehouse's driveway after completing a job there. I came to a full stop on the red light at the following intersection and seconds later a 20 year old kid with a Subrau STi smashed into my rear end!! I was pissed but remained calm as this wasn't my first accident in life. But, this is the first one with only 3,500 miles on odometer! I am hoping to have everything covered by his insurance company. Fortunately, a police cruiser parked nearby saw everything and I didn't have to dial 911. They pulled up and asked us to move our cars to the side. That kid's license was suspended too. They searched his car etc. & let him drive away in the car that I thought does not look OK to be driven at all.

It appears to me that the tow hitch is bent and might need to be replaced otherwise it is mostly body work (bumper, rear quarter panel, tailgate, trims etc) and the passenger side tail light. I know it is difficult to tell from pictures but I am open to any comments, feedback and suggestions. Should I get it done from a reputable body shop or go to the stealer who likely will contract their local body shop so I think I am better off finding my own shop. Thoughts? Tail gate functions fine but has a dent on it, not sure if that can be fixed! I drove the truck back home doing 70-80mph to see if it pulls/wobbles etc and didn't any issues with the performance. With that being said :knock-on-wood: I hope there aren't any mechanical issues. I took plenty of photos. Take a look at what Taco did the STi.

Good thing you’re safe. The Subaru looks like a plastic toy. Time for an aftermarket steel bumper!

It’s been a long work day for me today.... having a hard time trying to visualize how the Subaru rear ended you at a 45’ angle. (Or close enough to that looking at front quarter panel) Especially if you were stopped at a stop line.

As per his description he tried to cut to the car to the right as he realized he was just about to rear end me after which I think he drove on the curb and maybe even hit a pole or another object, not sure.

Where the fuck are you from that the police let someone with no license drive away???

Here the vehicle is automatically impounded & the person goes to jail!!!

Suffolk County. NY. I am pretty sure you get arrested around here too. I noticed they favored the kid on that part and let him go. I think they should have asked him to get a tow since that car isn't safe for any road. I would have just invited ended up on the cops' negative side and possibly an argument if I started to tell them how to do their job? Pretty sure it was few summons at the minimum if not an arrest.

Yea I guess in NY they have bigger fish to fry. As far as I know from an incident here an officer was responsible for a death after letting a driver with no license drive away to soon after getting into an accident that killed someone!

Glad your ok & sorry about the truck. Should get fixed up pretty easy

that fender looks like he could whack someone and decapitate them.

glad you're ok. I'd definitely have that frame checked out. at least good opp for a aftermarket bumper.

Tough break OP, I had a hit and run while parked on my taco at 5k miles so I know the feeling

Get it checked out I hope the kid had insurance.

As for the cops letting him drive away with a suspended license and damage like that o_O and I thought California was bad..

Both vehicles did their job protecting the drivers. Puzzled about how a cop will let someone drive off with a suspended license after causing an accident in a vehicle in that condition. It seems unsafe on many levels.

Yeah that... I got pulled over when I was much younger for an inspection sticker and had a suspended license - they towed my fucking car and sent me and my wife on our way (she had a license that was good) on foot in 10F weather at night in the city and no cash to get a taxi. Add insult to injury and I had to pay $200 to get car out of impound and a $120 ticket I had to pay to get the car.

There's no driving away with a suspended license anywhere I know of. Kid had to know the police officer somehow ... or a phone call was made I bet.

I wonder if the kid was texting while driving ta boot. Police would have seen the driver doing that as well. Those Subies have pretty beefy brakes and can stop in short order. Texting... should have taken a ride with police.

OP glad you're safe n sound.

Perfect opportunity for plate bumper and Pro tail lights. It's actually pretty easy to upgrade those parts.

Be sure the police reported the accident proper... letting someone like that go seems a little fishy to me.
