    Hey guys,

The dome light in my 2016 Tacoma SR5 4x4 pops out. Specifically, it's the rear two clips. The front clips stay secured. I took it into the stealership and they "replaced" the clips. Come to find out, they only replaced one, the other was all chewed up and not seating properly. I went back in and just had them give me new clips. I installed them and I had no issues until the next day after the truck sat in the sun all day, the rear two clips gave way and popped out when I was driving. I've since taken the assembly out and inspected the clips. They are not damaged but the two rear clips are still not holding.

I took the clips out of the dome light assembly and put them in the holes in the roof by themselves. I noticed the rear two holes are punched in a thinner piece of metal when compared to the front two holes. Also, the clips in the rear will wiggle whereas the clips in the front stay seated much more securely.

It seems to me that the rear holes that the clips are supposed to be seated in are just slightly too big and when the "carpeted" roof pushes down against the dome light assembly, the clips slip back through the holes that are a bit too big.

I'm going to take the truck back in Monday and have little to no hope they'll be able to fix the problem. I've installed the dome light as well as the dealership and each time it pops out within a day or so. I've also taken it out and switched the clips around / used new clips to see if that would help. So, I really doubt it's a user error / improper installation (especially since you just push the assembly up into the roof until it clicks). Any ideas? Any one experience similar issues?

Sorry for the long post and I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. You guys are awesome!

Thanks for the overwhelming feedback guys. After 4 trips to the dealership (and new clips and a new dome light) we realized that the metal tensioner tabs above the dome light were pushing down with too much force and popping the dome light out. I went in there and pushed them back so that they were applying minimal pressure to the dome light, and that seems to have fixed the problem for now.
