I added a Snugtop topper to my 2017 Double Cab, Long Bed, Offroad. I would like to had some extra support on the rear to prevent bottoming out when I'm carry camping gear for a family of 4. roof top tents, bikes, etc. however, I'm not planning to lift the truck. Any suggestions on extra support such as "add a leaf" or air bag support to add extra support to prevent sagging?

Sumo springs would accomplish what you are looking for. I have them on my truck, it has a cap and a full bed of gear 100% of the time. Zero sag with them.

Thanks for the recommendation Mr. Dangle!

Does anyone have any "non" air suggestions?

I don't remember how I ended up with ones I did if I'm honest. If I had it to do again I probably would go softer and work my way up. My truck when unloaded, is noticeably firmer in the rear. My truck is almost always loaded though and the only time it's not, I'm going to pick up a load of something. With a load and pulling a 3k pound trailer they work very well. Especially for the money and ease of maintenance.
As for install, just reuse your existing u bolts, remove existing bump stops, install sumosprings. It's real easy. Maybe 20 minutes. Tops. That includes jacking up the truck.

This is probably the correct long term solution, and I probably will do this one day, but for the $189 I paid for sumosprings it's hard to beat for now.

x2. I put on medium dakars for my '17 DCLB for the same reason (camper shell, RTT, etc.). They will lift the rear about 2 inches but will definitely suit your needs offroad without rear sag. Leaf springs essentially need lift to keep from sagging under heavy loads while also maintaining a good ride.

Headstrong recommended either a single or a set of AAL’s and 5100s for my truck as I want to both tow a trailer in addition to going off-road camping with gear only as well. They did not recommend spring stops ( like sumo) or air bags in my situation (as I wanted to both prevent sag and increase weight handling too) since they both dont increase the weight load capacity of your OEM springs, and an airbag can affect off-road flex if it’s the type that bolts on the top and bottom.

I couldn’t be happier with their AAL recommendation.

Yup, that Dakar AAL did the trick - Lt Dangle’s suggestion was mentioned too, but it does change the unloaded ride and some don’t like the hardness when you hit bumps with those. I also worried about the weight of my trailer and having to add airbags to it, but when I put on the trailer with just the single AAL, extra gear and an extra 15gal.’s of fuel in back of the truck for our thanksgiving road trip, it rides well enough without going to airbags. I’m going to skip those.

Long bed owner to long bed owner, get the OME Dakar's. They have been on my long bed for 7 months now and they're great!!! Have the medium duty ready to go on my DCSB as soon as I have the time. Have a couple of buddies who are running Deaver expo's and they to love there packs.

Sorry for digging this back up, but i am doing all the research i can on the Hellwig 980's before i buy them. My question is, why didn't you like them or why only use them for a day? Also, did you end up selling them?

    thanks for your help!

I decided to go with the full lift. They are a quality product and install was fairly easy. They worked as advertised giving me a good inch of lift in the rear. They are also adjustable. Just decided to go a different route. Yes I still have them.
