So best bet would be a complete engine and transmission transplant?

I've read that the locking function in the torque converter may be different and plan on using the donor, 99% sure the donor 4runner transmission is the A750 5speed though (havent crawled under there to verify) but with an AWD xfer case. Hoping to use donor motor, donor torque converter, Taco tranny, taco xfer case. Also have all the appropriate controls and harnesses in the donor 4runner :fingerscrossed:

    Nope, 03 & 04 V8 4Runner (and Tundra) use the same trans as the 03 & 04 3.4L V6 Taco so that won't pan out for you

Yes, just confirmed A750F on mine. Still wonder what the VVT/NON-VVT difference will be.

I'm gonna guess immobilizer would be the biggest hurdle. Engine power output is the same

If he is talking about his donor runner it's a non vvti with a A750

05 vvti had the most HP

05-09 are the same. I know what you mean about 05 having the most power but that's only because they change the way they rate it nothing else

Not 100% true I've felt and seen the difference, I've had my dads runner (03) a 2005 tundra (4door) and a 2006 tundra (4door) stock for stock the 2005 won every time

Its cause toyota wasnt going by sae correction when they advertised hp and tq numbers in 2005.
2006 model year is the same truck, just sae corrected numbers like the rest of the world.

Sooo did this ever happen? The 5.7L I mean ... What if someone had like the whole thing engine trans wire harness computer, the works. It would still be a challenge but then wouldn't you only have to get the Tacoma gauges to work with the V8

God I'd love a 4.7 in my Tacoma. Sorry 4.0, but those things sound sweet and pull hard.

hey guys, so i have an '08 tacoma 4WD, have plans of swapping my half-working 1GR for a 2UZ as its gonna be cheaper buying the 2UZ engine ecu and harness, just wondering if someone could let me know if there's anything else i'd need, i plan on using the 2005 tundra 4.7 2uz, also i have the a750 5 speed automatic transmission, i was told that the tranny fits right up with the 2uz engine, just let me know if i'm wrong and what else i'd need before i get the ball rolling on this project, most likely gonna go ahead with it anyway but it would just help if i had an idea of how much more work/money i'm gonna have to put in,

note the 1gr engine is costing me 4k and the 2UZ with ecu and harness are costing me 2k so i'm looking at the savings there.

You need the radiator and fan shroud and bell housing/torque converter from the V8 and depending on what you decide regarding motor and transmission mounts need to figure out drive shaft lengths.

And make a thread here on the project. Lots of guys will want to see that
