I am thinking of getting a HIT Roof top tent. I was told that the weight of the tent with NO Load (135 lbs) and the canopy max weight with no load is 200lbs. But with the roof pop with full oad of people sleeping, which is max of 1200 lbs. will there be a chance of the canpy collapsing?
Has anyone still used there pop up tent and seen any issue with having it.

I wouldn’t even try it. You’re talking about distributing half of a 1200 lb load onto a structure that is guaranteed to support 200lbs. You could get away with what you’re talking about if your whole family weighs less than 75 lbs combined.

The shell probably won’t collapse without warning, it will probably crack first. It may not be the first night, but it will absolutely fail sooner or later.

I've cracked two camper shells and I didn't even have a RTT mounted yet, just other gear and cargo.

I wouldn't even be too worried about putting 500-800lbs worth of people up there as thats pretty much a static load and fairly distributed.

I'd be more worried about tossing around 135lbs offroading to my destination, thats dynamic load and if you're gonna crack the shell I think it'll be from that.
