Man, some of you guys live in really different markets. The difference between a well appointed OR and the Pro, here, is about $5k (perhaps closer to $6k now with the $1000 cust cash). Just doing up the suspension should I go OR, for me, does a lot to close that gap. Again, however, I have bigger fish to fry (attached) so the Taco won't really see much, if any, upgrades. Great input and thanks everyone. Pretty damn nice site you've got here.

I could not agree more, but already have the full size thing dialed, and then some. Would be nice to have something I could park (short of a Wal-Hell parking lot) and while still being able to handle some towing duties and a little Baja fun.

Sounds like you've got this figured out. I hate it when I see someone coming in spending $45k on a brand new taco and then try and tow something like a 5,000lb travel trailer and are disappointed with their trucks performance.

Sure, it'll be "fine" (which is what I told him) but it won't be as good as the same amount of money spent on a bigger truck

    This comes to mind...

People who didn't buy the Pro love to hate on it, I was one of em until I bought one. No way id step down to the OR or Sport now that I have a Pro.

Went with a PRO (which I lucked into finding - all about timing) and have zero regrets. Thought I'd miss a sun roof but I don't at all, and really appreciate the extra headroom. Love my Cavalry Blue color, though both Quicksand & Cement are awesome. And this may piss a few off, but to some of us, exclusivity is worth paying a premium price for. I love that, in addition to the fact that the PRO gives me all the upgrades (and more) I'll likely ever need, it's damn rare around here! I drove into one of the Toyota dealers yesterday and they had never even seen a Cavalry Blue PRO. In the 5 months since I took delivery, I've seen 2 other PROs, both black and I live in a pretty heavily populated area. I see 20 or 30 other Tacos every day, a lot of them ORs. It baffles me why so many hate on PRO owners, as if the OR is the only true truck for modders and off-roaders. Yep, the PRO cost more, though I paid $700 under MSRP (ORs are not discounted very much around here). For me, the PRO was totally worth it, especially the exclusivity! Everyone should spend their money wisely, but as they see fit, according to their values and financial ability.

Bare bones OR, no regrets. The only justification I can see for buying the Pro is (1) finding good deal on one that puts it closer than the $15k difference I found and want one of the Pro colors, or (2) when you want MT and all the extras... the MT OR only comes bare bones and doesn't offer the upgrades you can get with the AT.

Otherwise you're just overpaying for a lift kit, a grille, and some badges. You can do it all after the fact at half the price for an order of magnitude better performance.

Absolutely love my pro and wouldn’t have it any other way. Don’t care about the price difference it’s just my truck at my vacation house.

Love the interior, love the looks, love the wheels. Selling my pro suspension and stock tires offset some of the lift and tires. It’s a fun little toy for sure.

It's only been a week, but I have no regrets. Access Cab OR. Coming from a Civic, I am super happy with the capability I have now, and I am satisfied with the fuel mileage. I can go hunting and fishing, and get a bit deeper in the woods. I can haul my tent trailer, and it tows 3500 lbs like a boss. I can haul big bulky stuff. It has all the tech I could ever want with nav, crawl, etc. It took me 20 years to get around to actually getting one, and I am glad I got the OR over all the other options.

Would I buy this to tow a 30+ ft travel trailer, no. Would I buy this to go pro desert racing, no. But for the goals I set out when choosing a vehicle, it checks all the boxes.

I was in this place to and settled on the OR. Keep in mind fox shocks need rebuilds. I do lots of offroading and I'm always using my truck like a truck. I don't like leather seats and I'm a seat cover guy. Beside those 2 things, my offroad doesn't lack anything else other than the non functioning hood scoop and random accessories like tinted head lamp lenses and the like ( asthetically different, no performance gain) the pro looks cool, that's about it I'm afraid. Oh, and the trd pro grill that everyone and their dog have. Not as many have the offroad/sport grill thankfully.

Comes down to how often you tow. I've towed 6000 lbs easily over mountain passes in the winter in Canada. In 2 wheel drive too because the weight give great traction. If i towed every day I would have a full size. But I don't so i really don't need one.

I love both OR and Pro, price difference was about 7k which was a little more than I wanted to spend, also like the Sunroof in the OR.

You have to be very careful with those full size trucks and their adds of $12k off. What they're showing is every rebate available (which .0001% will qualify for all of them) and they're making you finance with Ally at some gosh awful interest rate. Most likely you'll get around $8500 off and soon as you drive off the lot the truck will be worth $15k less. Believe me, I thought the grass was greener on the other side and bought into the "I can get a V8 full size for less money than a Tacoma!". Needless to say it was 2 years later and I was back to the Toyota dealership buying a Tacoma again.

So, I’m one of the suckers who forked up the premium for a Pro, but I didn’t mind. My reasoning went like this:

    1.Still $5k cheaper than a new Rubicon
2.Something like $10k cheaper than the cheapest, most stripped-down Raptor out there... $20k < Average.
    3.Value Retention. If I don’t like it
For some reason, I’ll trade it in, and probably won’t lose much in the exchange.

There are only a couple things I don’t like about it, but nothing the aftermarket can’t fix.

Also, I found mine on a local dealer lot, so it was kind of an easy decision for me.

Kinda wish I had got the Pro sometimes. They look pretty sick and I like the seats/TRD exhaust/styling/suspension. But my OR gets the job done and then some.

Thanks everyone. Down to two Tacos: Loaded up black OR and the White Pro. Right now the difference is approx $5k. Black OR needs to drop around $2k for me to bite (friend owns the dealership with the OR, so you'd think....., but I doubt we'll get there). I decided on the auto due to boat launching/loading, which I know a number of you wouldn't do that, but going auto for sure (especially since it appears they worked out some of the earlier issues (fluid levels)). Thanks again.

No regrets on my Pro. Cavalry Blue was my favorite color and only available on the pro. A lot of haters live to shit on the pro, but there is a lot of added features over the OR. I wasn’t planning to do mods, so I wanted the top tier truck that was goin to stay stock. I love the suspension (even though there is a lot of hate on it also by non-pro owners) I recently was bombing sandy/rocky desert roads at 60mph, that would be impossible in any other off road vehicle I’ve ever been in. The suspension is legitimate. Also, the pro badges add at least 20hp so that’s worth a lot.

That being said, I paid msrp for mine. If I had to pay the standard 5k mark up, I probably would have went with a cement off road or a 2019 off road if Cavalry Blue gets rolled into regular production next year.

i have an OR Tacoma and a Pro 4Runner. I don’t know if the Tacoma heads the same crazey resale for a Pro that the 4 runner has. For the options and colors you want go with the OR .
I use mine pretty hard and it performs well.
The upgraded shocks with bypasses on the pros is the only thing I wish I had on the Taco, doing many miles of potholed washboard , large rock caliche roads I can feel when the stock bilstiens have faded and are no longer helping. But this can be added much cheaper than a pro upgrade.
