The flexibility of being able to set up a tarp away from the truck is also a bonus. Sometimes being stuck next to the truck is not the best place to sit.

    Actually I just tried one.
    Easy Peasy.
The tube they come in acts as a wrench. It fits in the large hole. The screw is easy to put in, then really easy to take out. I did not use the tube to extract the screw. Anyone remember what it is like taking out the large stakes that are pounded in???
The material is flexible, so it will not break.

    Edit:
Note these are the small ones, there are large ones available.

Yea, I screwed that post up.

But from my experience not all ground is created equal. A cordless tool adapted to screw those suckers in and out could be priceless. Not sure they could take the torque though.

    Ok, I get it.

But, if the ground is hard enough to need to use a drill motor.... then the screw probably will deform.
The tube seems to limit the force you can use.

Or, I can pre-drill with the huge 'Nails' they call stakes. Pound one in a few inches and finish with the orange screw.

I bring several types of anchors for the tarps.

That said, last year at Zion campground... we got a spot that NOTHING would even break the soil. Not rock, just packed so hard we had to use rocks to stake out the tent for the night. The truck was too full of stuff to sleep in.

Yep, been on ground like that. I've seen some metal threaded stakes somewhere that may be just the thing for that. I'll see if I can find them for you.

Depends.Too sandy and it will not hold. But, then in sand you can make a deadman anchor easy enough.

They have a really cool survival paracord.

And on the topic of Military Discount.
Lowes ... You only need to go to the customer service counter and show the 'proof' and they enter it in the system with your phone number. You DO NOT have to do it online as they say.
