You could if you wanted however the notch settings would provide around 1" less lift then what they spec out for.

When you look at the pictures of the two struts side by side that you posted, it appears the clip height on the 2nd gen would compress the spring more making more lift if the bottom eyelets were even (looks about 1/4" difference) but it could just be an illusion .

The shocks are designed differently (travel, etc) so there are other factors at play here then just the notch settings.

Is there a way you could take a picture of a second Gen, third GEN 6112 standing up? From the numbers it looks like they gave the third GEN a little less lift but a little more travel

I have a fair amount of weight up front. How would you recommend purchasing a bilstein 650 or 700 lb spring. Could I buy that from you guys in the performance bilstein kit with Dakar’s.

6112's 2.75 in. lift front, Icon UCA's, 5160s w/res, Deaver mini pack in the 1.5 in rear lift, TJM Rock Crawler front Bumper, Baja Squadron Sport lights, TJM Rock crawler lights, SPOD w/touchscreen, Rokblokz rear mud flaps, Method NV Wheels, 285/70R17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers
I have the same question. I love my 6112s on my 17 TRDOR, however since I added my TJM bumper and winch those 610# springs aren't cutting it. I would love to keep my 6112s and upgrade the springs instead of switching over to Kings or Icons

I'm planning on upgrading to Icon, from my 6112/5160 set up for a 2017 Taco.

I have been seeing a lot of questions about coil changes with the 6112's so I figured I would provide some insight as to why we don't offer this service.

Bilstein provides a 600lb coil spring with their 6112's for the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas. At the highest setting the 6112's for the 3rd gens will provide a maximum of 2" of lift and 2nd gens will see around 2.5" of lift. This is based on a stock weight 4dr 4x4 v6 auto that is stock weight. If you add weight to the front of the truck you will net less lift. How much less depends on the amount of weight being added. Some of my customers have provided feedback that suggests that they saw around 1"+ of loss of height when they have added close to 200lbs of additional up front weight. Not only did they lose height but they told me that the truck feels under-supported. Now the hard thing with coil swaps on the 6112's is that the shocks are not fully adjustable. They have predetermined notch settings from Bilstein. So you cannot adjust the shock like you can with true coilover units like ADS, Fox, Icon and King. Since this is the case, when you change out the coils, it would be a guessing game as to how much height you will gain from any one of the settings, how the coils and preload will perform and affect the ride, and if there is any potential for coil bind. We have not test fit coils other then the ones Bilstein provides here. I don't believe any other retailer has either. If someone were to do this, in order to provide accurate feedback, they would have to test each trim of Tacoma (model year, cab size, engine size, drive train, etc) with each of the different Eibach coils (14" 650lb, 14" 700lb, etc.) with all different configurations of weight being added (from a pound over stock to a couple hundred pounds). All of these different configurations would have to be test fit on every notch setting on each one of the 6112's for 2nd and 3rd gen. IF someone went to this extent then there would be an accurate basis for coil swaps with the 6112's. Since no one has done this, again to the best of my knowledge, it would be up to the end user to make coil changes on their own and at their own discretion. This way they would be responsible and take on the liability for any potential issues that doing so may cause. Now I know some people have successfully made coil changes on the 6112's and some people may be able to use their builds a jumping off point. If you do decide to do this make sure you are looking at apples to apples. For example say Joe has a 2010 4x4 v6 automatic and he is running 215lbs of up front weight from a steel plate bumper and winch combination and he used the Eibach 14" 700lbs at the highest notch setting on the 6112s and he netted 2.75" of lift after settling. Now Steve likes Joes build and wants to clear the same size tires that Joe has so Steve wants to copy what Joe did. However Steve has a 2010 4dr 2wd 4cyl and is running 180lbs of added up front weight. Because Steve's truck is lighter to begin with he could net more lift from the same configuration as Joe.

I hope this helps to clarify some things but if it doesn't feel free to pm me and I will do what I can to further the explanation.

@HeadStrong Off-Road, with that said, would you recommend just jumping into a fully adjustable coilover setup if future raises are wanted? I am considering the 6112 and 5160 combo at the moment to allow me to level out the truck. But if down the road I decide to increase ride height, would it be preferable to just go ahead and get something like the Fox Level 1 or Icon Stage 1? From my research, these 2 have yet to release a 2016+ specific kit correct?

Hi Marie - do you have an estimate of when these would be available again?

    Thank you.

So if I wanted to run extra weight up front, like a bumper and winch there is not spring option for a 2015?
