On my way to work this morning, a friendly driver notified me that my brake lights weren't working

Upon further inspection when I got to work...
    • My 3rd brake light works fine
    • My daytime running lights work fine (i.e., constant lights go on with headlights)
    • The problem is somewhat sporadic... The brake lights appeared to be working at first, then just stopped.
    • Both brake lights don't work, not just one or the other
I have a 2013 Tacoma with the LED brake lights. I haven't had a chance to take the lights out yet to investigate... heck, I'm not sure what I'd be looking for since this clearly isn't an issue with a burned out light bulb.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? Is is possible that whatever circuit controls the LEDs is shorting out? (I.e., I need new brake lights?)

    :annoyed:

It appears like the circuit board that controls the LEDs for the brake lights is fubarred (Note these are aftermarket Tacoma tail lights). I guess that's what I get for not using OEM parts.
