Dumb question, is the tss (radar) always supposed to work or only when you use cruise control. And by always supposed to work I mean is it always supposed to alert you to stop even if not on cruise control because I haven't used cruise control yet and it hasn't done shit for me lol

I have seen it pop of warnings about BRAKE NOW but not apply the brakes. A car turned in front of me and triggered it.

the radar will beep at you if you get to close to someone but it won't slow you down.... the cruise control will slow you down to 20 mph the rest to 0 mph is on the driver to be cautious even in cruise... my GF's '18 Camry will stop you and bring you back to 65 without touching anything...i learned the hard way after driving her car

That seems almost backwards. If a car stops suddenly, I'll know to brake. Reading it on the dash is another step the brain needs to do taking away a millisecond of valuable reaction time

in my mind the world is used to reading things or being told when to do something ( look at the generation around us now) not implying anything or making rude comments) but look how many people WANT to own a Manual Transmission not very many, or correctly type something on their phone ( thanks auto correct), everyone is so used to having a computer do it for them since the truck won't slow you down Toyota probably thought it best you need a reminder to stop your own self........just my .02

My Subaru sends an alert when the vehicle ahead begins to move. The stupid part, the vehicles ahead of that one have not moved.

These "safety" systems are complete crap imo.

My understanding of the system is that, when NOT using cruise control, the vehicle will only brake itself when impact is imminent, thus reducing, but not eliminating, the amount of damage done. I also got the impression that the level of alert before imminent impact, when it flashes the "Brake Now" message, that the vehicle will boost the braking pressure applied by the driver, but at that point, it is up to the driver to initiate braking. The vehicle only applies brakes by itself when there's no way around it, there's gonna be an impact!

    From the manual.

PCS (Pre-Collision System) : If equipped The pre-collision system uses a radar sensor and camera sensor to detect vehicles and pedestrians in front of your vehicle. When the system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with a vehicle or pedestrian is high, a warning operates to urge the driver to take evasive action and the potential brake pressure is increased to help the driver avoid the collision. If the system determines that the possibility of a frontal collision with a vehicle or pedestrian is extremely high, the brakes are automatically applied to help avoid the collision or help reduce the impact of the collision. The pre-collision system can be disabled/enabled and the warning timing can be changed.

My Wifes 17 Corolla has it to, and it works. Some asshat with no brake lights slammed on their brakes in front of me, and the car yelled at me before i registered the car closing rapidly. I am real happy to have the same feature on my truck. I have heard anecdotal evidence of it being really good at spotting deer jumping in front of you to, and avoiding damage.
