I have a 2016 DCSB OR 6-spd manual with tow package and OEM 265/70/16 tires. Just bought a 22' travel trailer, that will be about 4500 lbs loaded. Looking for different tires.

I want 235/85/16 (pizza cutters!!) but am hesitant about the extra weight and larger diameter. Wondering if 245/75/16 would be a more sane choice as they are the same diameter as my OEM tires. I realize the 235's may rub just a tad and would reduce my effective gear ratio by about 4 percent. Either tire is probably heavier than my stock OEM Kevlars.

If I had no trailer it would be 235's, period. But towing has me wondering if perhaps I should go 245's.

Also, I'm wanting a tire that has good sidewall puncture resistance so I don't have issues in CO mountains or UT dessert. I'm a pretty gentle / light off-road driver.

I have towed with the stock size and with the pizza cutters. The load rating on the cutters is most likely higher than the stock tire. My load rating went from 116 to 123 so that is an actual plus when towing. Also when you tow you should be using the S mode in 4th (1:1) so it will lower the rpm by 4 percent which is not a bad thing. My trailer is about 3700/3900 lbs and I have pulled it over many of the passes in Colorado with no problem. I think most of you concerns would be dIly driving with the larger tires. The larger you go with tires the less your truck will go into 6th. When I went to 33's the truck rarely used 6th gear and stay in 5th and down shifted to 4th on minor hills and on steep hills went to 3rd. I solved the problem and went with 4.88 gears, now everything is good daily driving and towing. My 33's changed everything about 8 percent. Hope this helps, just my opinion! Good Luck!

Good info. I have the manual tranny so my "shift computer" is far less capable than yours :). I have zero worries about daily driving with the heavier taller 235's, it is trailer towing in the Cascades and Rockies that has me pausing. What pizza cutters were you towing with? 255/85/16?

I’m towing a 19’ nautique with 255/85s. No problems. Up and down the Sierra mountains.
