    Theres some big holes out near the waters edge. looked like a puddle but was a 4 foot sinkhole apparently.

    That mud pit is a frenzy zone on weekends full of trucks with huge tires and V8s tearing it up and probably digging out huge ruts/holes into the bottom that you can't see...that would be my guess.
