Just got my 2018 Tacoma OR and in the market for some new wheels and tires. 16" are just too small for the truck and 20's are a bit too flashy for my taste.

Would you go with 17 or 18 and why?

FYI- leveling or lift kit is in the plan with the tire and wheel upgrade

~Thanks in advance for your thoughts

I don’t think it’s going to make a discernible difference while you’re driving it, so I would choose based on the availability/cost of the tires you want to run.

I like the 16”, a little more meat and tires I believe are cheaper than the 17”.

It has 16's on it in order to allow better airing down condition on the trail. That extra inch of sidewall really makes a difference at about 15 psi on the trail. It's an off road, built to go off road.

If it will be a pavement princess, get what you think looks best. If you’re going off road, I’d stay smaller with more rubber. Allows you to air down and the tire to flex more for grip and smoother ride off-road. Personally think more rubber looks better on trucks and jeeps.

I like the positives of this tire size but there is limited availability and what is for sale is on the expensive side.

True. But a lift, new wheels, new cheap(er) tires and other fitment modifications aren't inexpensive either.

    17"

Tire selection for some brands is WAY better here. My present wheels are 16", and the only KO2s I can get are E-rated. They're heavy bastards for such a small tire. I can get C-rated tires in 17" that are actually lighter.

17’s are the most popular around here I’d say. I sometimes wish I went 18”, but the wheel selection isn’t as plentiful imo.

Roughly this size seems to be ideal for a lot of folks.

The ones I'm wanting to get are 17"x8.5, with a 4.30" backspace and a -10mm offset for the same size tire.

I went 17, way more tires to choose from and not more expensive when I was shopping for them
