Looking for a bit of guidance here on buying a bow. I think I'd like to try my hand at archery hunting, which is completely new for me. I've done some reading up on compound bows but I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone has any insight or advice for me.

I'm fairly long armed (74 1/2" wingspan) and I've got better than average upper body strength. My wife, who may also use the bow, is obviously shorter and not as strong as I am. It would be ideal if we could buy one bow to start with, that is adjustable enough for both of to use. I'm not necessarily thinking we'd use it on the same hunt, but maybe, if and when I upgrade down the road, we would be able to set this one up for her to use. I'd like to stay under $500.

Does anyone have any recommendations, advise or insight for me/us before we throw hundreds of dollars into archery equipment?

Heading up to 6A this weekend but worried about the warmer temps for calling in the Toms. Hopefully they are active.

Finally got the 300 win mag back from the gunsmith and got to use the suppressor for the first time. Unfortunately did not get an elk tag but hoping for a deer tag.
3/4 inch group at 200 with crappy Federal factory ammo. Going to load up some Berger 210's and see what it can do.

Check out Timber Mesa Outdoors, go finger some bows, good set of dudes that work there and will help you find something within your price range.. Outstanding customer service in my opinion.

I'm in Tucson so Mesa is a bit far but I agree with the approach. When I started out I was looking at shit online. Now that I've been talking to people for a few months I've decided to go to a local shop that can get a bow set up specifically for me and where I can shoot it before committing. Thanks for the advice.

So last year was my first hunt. I had been around it as a kid with my dad and uncles usually hunting deer around the Sunflower area and elk up near Show Low. I got a crack at it in unit 37b and took this coues (30-30 win) only miles from Superior. My buddy Brandon also was successful. Really a great experience, start to finish and I'm looking forward to putting in the work again.
