Totally agree. If I can't get it to the dealer this week, I'm going to disable he one I usually carry and see if I can isolate that fob as a possible issue. Seems like a long shot.

Have you tried it 360 degrees around your truck?

Yep. Door handle unlock/lock function is unresponsive as well when it throws this fit.

Now that the pleasantries are over I have a few questions:

Any modifications to the electrical system, new radio, CB install, lightbar or replace bulbs?

Any modifications to the truck such as steps or sliders that could have pinched or grounded any wires to the frame?

Have you checked the battery cables for tightness? Not only at the battery but to the frame and alternator?

Have you checked to make sure the bed light or bed power outlet isn't left on causing a power drain?

Are any of the buttons on the FOB stuck in the depressed position?

Is there anything else electrical not working that you haven't noticed?

What do you have the settings selected on door operation in the display screen? Have you tried making any changes to them, do the changes take affect or are they ignored?

    Any blown or loose fuses?

These are things an owner might do or encounter that could affect door operation so you need to check them before taking the truck to the dealership.

If all of these have been eliminated my guess is a possible failing proximity sensor or a poorly seated / weak connection to it. If it's a bad connection it could exhibit intermittent operation like you describe even after changing the FOB batteries.

Have the same problem on a new 2017 Limited since day one. If I use the smart key sensors on the door handle or the buttons on the key fob I have to press the button several times for the truck to lock or unlock. I have replaced the batteries which was unnecessary since the truck only has now 3,000 miles but no luck. Both key fobs have this problem. I had a 2016 TRD Off Road DC with smart key before this one and 40,000 miles and never had this problem. And never on my 2016 smart key Camry before that. It is driving me insane! Especially Since this truck was over $40k
