I've done a lot of research and still trying to debunk why my 2.7 2006, on very hot days doesn't do a nice consistent start, kind of chokes up and then starts to run. When driving, hit up some shopping come back and start it, cranks like half a second and starts. Been doing this since new has 100k miles. Only happens when it's hot 30+ Celsius here in canada.

Drove truck, parked for 2 hours, very hot outside. Took about 4 seconds of cranking but gurgled to a start...

To convert temperatures in degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply by 1.8 (or 9/5) and add 32.

A brand new truck sat in a garage for 5 years? Dang. Besides making me want to cry, sitting unused for very long periods can cause a number of issues. Glad to hear you've been researching it as much as possible. The "crank like 1/2 second and it starts" is a normal start. Cranking for 4 seconds and gurgling to a start" is a problem. I agree the injectors are suspect, but I also suggest checking/cleaning the mass airflow sensor and throttle body. Is the battery good? A battery can be on its way out and still start your engine... electrical issues can mask themselves as other issues, and be far more frustrating to diagnose than mechanical woes. And how is the air filter? Any vacuum leaks? Good luck.

OP long start on mine recently within the year was cured by a set of replacement injectors. Five O Motorsports has replacement injectors at a reasonable cost.
