Sooo after nearly 170k miles of wheeling and adventures, the time has come to replace my clutch on the ol Honey Badger. Rubicon really beat the shit out of it among other things. Now a lot of guys here hate the OEM clutch and I actually didn't mind it, because you could stand on it when you had to to crawl up rocks and stuff. I know the standard is gonna be LCE or Centerforce and i know urd also has a full line of clutches available. What I'm looking for is some real world experience from guys who are wheeling with these clutches. What I don't want is an on/off switch for a clutch I want to be able to slip it if the situation calls for it. The reviews I've seen only speak of street driving, so feel free to jump in a speak 4cyl wheelers

It reads to me you’re happy with what you already had, and got good life out of it too.
From what I’ve read, I don’t think there’s any slip in those other clutches, not like what you’re looking for.

Happyish I like that I can slip the current setup. But there are times when I wish it shifted nicer. I would like some more precision but I'm not looking for a competition clutch I've had those they're fun on the track that's about it. I am gonna add a doubler to my truck in the next year maybe 2 so I won't need to slip it as much but it's still going to happen at times

Also I can probably get aftermarket cheaper than oem so there's a cost thing as well

My understanding is the Aisin CKT-065 is OEM, and it’s cheaper than the others mention

aisin is OEM but they're not cheap in Canada and my issue is I seem to be one of the very few guys out crawling with the 2tr. So I'm kinda making it up as I go here

I don't know about how it would be for situations like you describe, but 14 months ago, I put a Marlin Crawler clutch with a 1600lb pressure plate in my 1989 Yota. Great shifts and strong, positive engagement.

As a stock type replacement, and even in mild performance applications, I have used LUK clutches with good results.

Search LuK #16-088, or take that part number to your local parts palace.

I have the LCE Dual Comp in my truck, and it's pretty damn aggressive. Once it breaks in, you can slip it but not much at all. If you try to slip it, you get some serious chatter/shuddering. When I'm on the beach, starting out in the super soft stuff is interesting sometimes. LCE had recommended their Pro Clutch Kit if I was stock and just wanted a slightly stronger clutch that was still slippable.

Sounds like I wouldn't want one of these performance clutches either - I have a stock motor, with 32" tires, and I slip the clutch all the time to mount curbs etc. Am I correct in understanding that a performance clutch with little ability to slip will make it hard to do something like mount a curb head on from a dead stop?

If you look in my previous post, you can go with the LCE Pro Kit for a clutch that's stronger but still slips enough without chattering. My clutch is broken in now, and while I can slip it if I really need to it doesn't like it lol.
The stock Aisin is probably okay, but I'd rather a stronger clutch if I'm replacing it anyways.

Another vote for the Luk clutch !

I've had nothing but good results from Luk Clutches.

I once pulled one out that I had put in a Datsun (that would be Nissan for you young guys) that had about 40K on it and it looked practically new.
