Yeah not normal - 25k here and that is MUCH looser than the leather wrap on mine. I think you have legitimate gripe here

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
That is in no way, shape, or form acceptable. Mine is tight as a drum. That is warranty replacement right there. Don't give up or find a better dealer.

You should get that wheel replaced... it is obvious that it is faulty...

I wrapped my steering wheel with leather and is super tight.. first time I’ve done this...

I had the same issue as you with the loose leather on the steering wheel at the 7 o'clock position and had my steering wheel replaced under warranty. Dealership first assumed it wouldn't qualify, saying it was "cosmetic," but they got the ok to replace it. I'd say go back and have them compare to other tacos on the lot to prove that it isn't right.

I think so. But that would be a whole thread of nastiness.

I truly hope you can get that hot mess resolved. It's ridiculous.

As others have suggested, I'd be trying another dealer.

One who has half a brain on how to dodge corporate on your specific case a bit will swap you a perfect wheel out of a lot truck, then warranty out the bad wheel on their own vehicle.

Where did you get the leather? My OR has fake leather and would love to replace it with real leather.

Looks great, you did a good job. I can't imagine why Toyota wouldn't work with you on the steering wheel after you dropped a ton of cash on them.

    That sucks.

Sure would be nice if you would change the title. Something like "Tacoma Pro leather steering wheel defect" would be better. Then folks searching would pick up on this thread from google.

How is the quality of the leather? Can't believe it is so cheap. How was the install? Did you have to remove the steering wheel and air bag? I think I am going to get this because this 'pleather' wrap feels cheap.

That is waaay worse than mine. Mine is tighter than a mouse’s ear. I’d complain and say is almost caused you to lose control. That might perk toyota up a bit.

Write a letter to the Toyota Corp CEO or CS Exec and include your pic. Their contact info can be found in other threads here, like this one:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-2018-problem.548770/

This method seems to be a bit more helpful than dealing with the CS call center, esp once the initial claim is denied?

I met with a Toyota rep to fix a paint issue on my truck. I will tell you my truck has 47,000 on it and my steering wheel isn’t like that. Try a different dealership.

this. what i think you need is a dealer who's willing to help you and argue on your behalf with the corporate folks they work with. ultimately, a dealer rep who's on your side, but has a good relationship with their corporate contacts.

it's definitely not right. my '18 limited has roughly the same mileage, and looks like the same wheel. mine is solid as anything.

sorry, man. sucks to have to deal with something like that.

    good luck!

Made a point to test my steering wheel out today. Leather is tight on the wheel with no play anywhere.
