I've worked I dealerships for years and always laugh when they flex a truck for display. Saw a jeep end up tire side up from flexing in a snowbank, say a truck slide into another after a week flexing and seen one get a tire replaced due to silly display.

In my mind I imagine something like this probably happened to your truck.

Brodozered out. But then again I've seen plenty of stock trucks "displayed" like this. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if a 20 year old sales kid was told to go flex the truck out front for show and he did something dumb to OP's truck

If you had crawl control you wouldnt have pushed that chunk forward, the truck would have crawled up it without moving it.

Well, I guess it's possible. There is a slope in front of the dealership where all the trucks are parked, but it didn't look very extreme. I doubt sitting up like that would allow the bed of the truck to 'kiss' the back of the cab though.

To open a case with Toyota you would need to call the corporate office.

No way that happened flexing it out. For the bed to hit the cab something pretty violent had to happen more like it was rear ended.

I know mine is a 2nd gen but I have had mine flexed out hundreds of times and the bed hasn’t come anywhere close the the cab.

Pic of what I’m talking about when I say flexed out.

I live in the LA and Orange County area in SoCal. I have a few friends that work at the docks in San Pedro. If you’ve bought a car from an overseas factory in your life, chances are it came through this port.

Anyway, they’ve told me that accidents are extremely common in the port. They have only a certain amount of time to unload thousands of cars off of the massive ships, and mistakes happen. Every manufacturer has their own body shop at the port, that’s how common it is.

Could’ve been a big screw up, and they fixed it, but didn’t fix it entirely. Tacoma’s are selling like hot cakes right now, they were probably told to get it out to the dealer to get the rest of the repairs done, which obviously weren’t done. It’ll get fixed man. Don’t sweat it.

My last truck was never in an accident. When I traded it in, they told me it had right front end damage, but the car fax was clean, so it was likely at the port. It didn’t not decrease my trade in value.

Just get it fixed. Take a deep breath, and enjoy the truck you want, that you now have. Don’t sweat this detail. If anything, it’s just the reason you got it and nobody else picked up the EXACT truck YOU wanted.

These trucks are transported via car carrier or train. They don't come on ships when made in Texas and mexico..... unless there is a ocean in between that I'm an not aware of.

I’m implying that something happened to it in transit, whether it be ship, train, truck, or a donkey. Like the blue one on the second post. They probably repaired it enough to get it to the dealer, who was supposed to finish repairs, but didn’t. But even if it was done prior to the OP selling it, it wouldn’t really make much of a difference. If anything, this issue helped the OP get the truck he wanted!
