Wanted to do the Army surplus ones but the cost of 4 is 13.96 and you guessed it shipping = 12.90. Have to look for a different D ring.

Edit: Try again in a week.

Nope, I just ordered 4 to Mass and the cheapest is 12.90 too, well 12.40 with fedex, but fedex is trash.

I just installed the D rings from the army surplus store upon recommendations here. Install went smooth. Hammered off the washers with a socket. I wore gloves :)D). Some anti-seize and back on they went (one at a time). I hand tightened it first, then torqued it down to 60 ft/lbs. Afterwards, I tested the bed bolt closest to the tailgate, which I didn't use (only ordered 4). It seemed like it was more like 40-45 ft/lbs? My torque wrench is not the best, so calibration could be off.

Smart move with the gloves!

The bed does wear a bit where it contacts the frame, so if you have lots of miles esp offroad, that could explain the torque on the rears? Either way, those bolts and welded nuts on the frame are good for 60ft-lb.

Thankfully, I haven't had to load up my bike yet, but the d rings have been handy for tying down other stuff.

Edit: I bought one of these about 6yrs ago:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GLISI0

They sell a version of it at HF also. With a bench vice or crescent wrench, you can use it to check torque wrench calibrations. It isn't as good as a lab, but good enough for garage wrenching.

The 1/2in drive version that I have reads down to freaking 5N-m and has proven to be accurate. I use it all the time on the aluminum threads of my bike. I totally trust it.

Thanks, I will pick one of those up. I'll recheck the torque on those bolts once I verify/calibrate.

The D rings look great, though. Seems much more stout than the stock D rings by the tailgate. I ride mountain bikes, so it should hold it no problem. :D Wish I had these last week when I could have used some lower tie down points up front. Figured I might as well do the middle of bed as well. Only problem I had was trying to get the rings pointed the right way. I could hold it in place until the last 1/2 turn when I was torqueing them down, then the whole thing would turn with the bolt. I guessed right on 3, but one is still off. I'll get around to fixing it one of these days.

To all others, I wouldn't even bother with Dodge or other D rings. These will do the job.

You're welcome! I have a 1/2in drive version and it works down to very low torques that will be good for your MTBs.

Yeah. They are definitely beefy. The stock rings are strong also, but the bolt is much smaller. That would most likely fail first.

Since it was in my hand, I put a dab of antiseize between the top of the d ring and the head of the bolts. This helped them stay in place while getting to the final torque.

Has anyone bothered to look or found the part number from the original post? Looking for those bare metal tie downs.

Just a post to note the attached torque specs. The 60ft-lbs that I guessed was too high.

    Thanks, @Saeros !

You had the 60 right, wrong units though!

Spent about an hour yesterday looking for this on various sources, with no luck.
