    All,

NorCal guy here. A lot of my buddies talk about going down and seeing this awesome area but sadly don’t know too much about it. I have read info on line but would love to get some insight from Tacoma guys that visit it far more than the people that wrote the reports I read. Any don’t-miss spots? Any great spots to camp? How much time to set aside? Cool hikes? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers from NorCal!

Alabama Hills is cool, but I wouldn't dedicate a trip specifically for it. There aren't really any don't miss spots and there's so many good spots to set up camp that it really just comes down to personal preference. It's cool to drive around and scramble around the rocks a bit, but other than that there isn't a whole lot to do unless you're into trad climbing on less than ideal rock.

Maybe spend a night there, and then a night or two on the backside of Mammoth at Devils Postpile/Red's Meadow if you want some beautiful hiking. Minaret Lake is a semi-long, but absolutely beautiful hike from Devils PP. You also have Yosemite, so you have an insane amount of options if you travel to the area

    I can afford Gas.
I used to live in the area. Its neat. Lots of stuff is going on in Mammoth right now. I would stop at Virginia Lakes, Mono, Lundy, June. Mammoth Motocross (Vet edition) is this weekend. Lots of trails you can drive between Mono and Mammoth, just stop in at Lee Vining visitors center. Bishop is always fun. You can drive some trails, maybe drive up to Coyote Flats. Then head down to Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills. There's no predescribed tour. Just take some time and drive off the road less traveled.
