Hey guys, so I'm pretty close to ordering a new Tacoma. I've test driven several and found the TRD Sport to feel the best to me. With that being said, I really prefer the look of the OR and wouldn't mind having a locker or a-trac should I ever need them. I don't plan on going off roading much, so the better handling of the Sport really appeals to me. I know one of the biggest differences between the OR and Sport suspensions are the shocks, but is there anything else different? I wouldn't be against just swapping out the shocks for the ones used in the Sport and having the OR ones for the few times I do go off roading. Sorry if this info is posted somewhere else, but I couldn't find it

Sport has more of a visual package built into the price (color match fenders, bumper, hood scoop) the OR has more functional equipment (Locker, crawl control, Multi Terrain Select and softer suspension).

That said, I think it comes down to what you prefer and your over all usage of the truck will be.

What an astonishing question! No one on tacomaworld has ever asked this before so it might be hard to get people to answer...

Be honest with yourself about how much you plan to off-road, and then buy the sport because you said you liked it better.

Get what is best for your needs as either one is a good choice. I choose the sport over the OR as I rarely go off road but needed a way to get home if it snows bad when at work.

You can always add air lockers. Or test drive and SR5 and add some items if you like. The Sport and SR5 will both handle quite a bit off-road but unless you are on flat land the scoop is obstructive.Highway driving, you can get accustomed to the scoop.
Get what you like and the options you want..Everyone has their opinion..

Get the sport and buy a take-off OR suspension for cheap. Sounds like you don’t need a locker.

He said he likes the feel of the sport, why would he want to change to a take off suspension?

If you like the feel of the sport better, do it!

Personally, I'd get the OR for the non-scoop hood, extra OR features, and now the OR comes in the long bed too. But it sounds like you have your heart set on the sport, and it sounds like it will serve you well.

Do you work in east/central Georgia?

If so, I'm curious to know what a "bad snow" is there..

I drove both and ended up with an OR. I liked the ride much better. 27 months and 27K later I love it. My real struggle then became between a short bed and long bed OR. Ended up with a shorty cause I couldn't find a silver sky long bed. You can always find OR wheels and get some bilstein 5100's and you'll have a good rid w/the sport appearance, but not the function. Good luck to you in deciding :)

Get what makes you happy! I chose the Off-road for the features already mentioned plus I didn't like the hood scoop or the wheels. The Off-road sits on 16" tires while the Sport sits on 17" tires.

I like the way the sport drove better, but much prefer the looks of the OR. I'm not a fan of the hood scoop to be completely honest. If the differences are just shocks and a sway bar, that sounds like a very easy fix to get the looks I want and the driveablilty that I'm looking for. Again, I don't go off Road enough to need the suspension dedicated for it, but it couldn't hurt to have the lockers and a-trac should I need them. I mostly need the 4x4 for taking it to the snow

I never test drove a sport so I don't really know the difference in ride between the two. I am with you and prefer the OR looks way better then the sport. If your hung up on just the suspension I would go with the OR. In a few weeks you will forget what the Sport suspension feels like, if not find some cheap take-offs on here.
