Overhead Compass/Temp Fix

I would think so. If no connection is no illumination and 51 ohm is proper illumination, then 510 ohms resistors could certainly make it dim.

The fix I did only lasted until today, I have read that others have had the same issue pop back up. Guess I'll have to resort to snagging one off ebay too

 

circuit board has heat issues, best to upgrade circuit board, fix is temporary...imo

Sweet thanks! Still cheaper than a "new" OEM part on Ebay and it sounds like this service will actually be a true fix for the weak board.

They use better parts that don't flex in the heat...so this shoulbe be a fix for the life of the truck.

 

Did you re-use the factory resistor or use a full size?

 

I was able to find the original loose in the compartment and reuse it.

 

If you look back through the thread, you'll see that re-using the original resistor is the problem. Go pick up a standard size 51 ohm resistor, and solder that in. I think the issue has more to do with not getting enough solder on the original (because of how tiny it is), than anything else.

I went through the same process. Re-soldered the original in, held for about a month, then shit out again (I think I may have even done it twice). I then used a standard size resistor, and it's been just about a year so far, and it's been holding up. Your able to get a much better connection between the board, and resistor, with the bigger resistor.

 

Solder choice is also a big part. The lead-free stuff blows. I got some 60-40 tin lead rosin core off ebay for like $3.

Did mine again this afternoon...back up and running. The resistor next to the one I soldered last time was loose. Note to others doing the repair, solder both resistors while you have it apart.

I have some resistors ordered to give it a try. Mine is working since the fix. Have these for when it happens. I have 50x 150ohm coming in.

 

I hope you fat fingered that post and meant 510 ohm resistors.

Oops, I had a brain fade and should have typed 51 ohms.

Well, I went to that link and looked at what he did. Well........ uh...... OK, so he reinforced 1/2 of the circuit to a level that it will never fail. However, the other 1/2 of the circuit is still destined for failure.

 

And then guess what will be done again. Come on give the guy a bone.
