So i went to unlock the truck, and the fob is blinking the red light to show it sent the message, no luck. Ok dead battery it happens. Went to grab the second fob. Same issue. Find it hard to believe BOTH are dead, right ? Unlocked with the key provided in the fob. Car wont recognize either key to start ( push to start ) so i did the " hold the fob to the start/stop" button and it works. Anyone got any ideas of what i can do as general stuff to reset or do myself ?

Both fobs could be dead. Try the batteries first. Also do a voltage check on the truck battery, sometimes that is the culprit.

On my wifes 2017 JEEP, it was the RFID receiver in the vehicle, but that is very rare.

That happened to my father's key fobs for his Highlander. They don't use power just when the button is clicked. From what I understand they are always "looking" for a signal from the vehicle. So it's possible both batteries would die at the same time.

How close in proximity are you storing the fobs in relation to where the truck is parked? I have heard or read somewhere, that if too close the fobs are constantly trying to communicate, therefore, both fob batteries could be dead.

Thanks for the feedback. Just did the voltage it is fine. Also if i remember the manual correct, normally your fob and car will talk and let you know the battery is starting to die, but it is only tech afterall so the finger is pointing to both dying at the same time. The keys are stored about 80 feet or so away from the car. Normally i have to walk aboit 20ft closer to lock and unlock from where it is parked. Follow up question, never had a car with a fob until now. Can i take the keyfobs so some random shop and get a new battery in each, or is this a dealership issue to make sure it does not need to be reprogrammed after a battery switch?

Did your dash have the message "key not detected"?

So i reset the key fob hold lock push unlock twice. Ran around doong errands ect. Came home to figure this out. So the daily key fob now lock, unlocks, and is sensed by the vehicle. Now i went to the back up fob. Did NOT do the power save reset. The back up fob worked just like normal. So i suppose the car was not picking up any of the signals from the lock and unlock to sensing proximity to sensing so i can drive it ( without putting the fob on the push to start) so it is either a recieving issue with the vehicle, or it was some outside freak incident. Either way, automatic trans strikes again ! Haha thanks for the help again

Turn your spare fob off. That way it won’t be actively searching and using the battery.

Hold down the lock button and at the same time press unlock twice quickly. To ensure it worked, touch your door handle on the unlock sensor. It won’t unlock your door. To awaken your fob, press the unlock button once or twice to then use your fob again.
