Hello, came across this site when looking for info about the frame replacement on Tacomas.
I brought my ‘07 to the dealer and they are now holding it so they can replace the frame. I was told it would be at least two months but I’m hearing stories about it being MUCH longer.
They gave me a brand new ‘18 RAV4 to use while I wait, which is really nice, but I would still prefer my truck for the things I need it for. I have read that all this work is in the $12,000 range, the rental car will end up costing a few thousand. The truck is an ‘07 regular cab, manual, bench seat, crank windows, no power locks, no frills, not even a key fob, just regular old metal key. It is worth 10k or less. They could offer me 15 or 20k off a new one and we would both make out. But, no, they said they must replace the frame. Seems kind of a waste to me, but what can you do?
Anyone else had this done? How long did it take?
    Thanks.

Welcome to TW...I’d like to know how much the whole frame issue has cost Toyota. In 2003 I bought a 2000 X-tra cab for $13k and in 2010 due to frame rot Toyota bought it back for $11,750 then shipped it to Dallas and crushed it. They were buying back the 2000’s and older and the 2001’s and newer were getting new frames. When they can put out that kind of money on recalls it makes you realize just how much they are making on their new vehicles.

I was told 5 to 8 months. It came in 4 weeks. The dealer was as surprised as I was. People on here have reported waits from as little as 3 weeks to 7 months.

Mine cost Toyota $12,986. Pretty sure Toyota got a good chunk of cash from the company that made the shitty frames. Don't know if it was enough to cover all the replacements, but if it wasn't, there's a lot to be said for goodwill/customer retention (and some tax write-offs as well).
