I am looking at a 2018 Tacoma either the TRD Sports or the TRD Off Road. I notice some trucks have 3.91 gears and some have 4.30 gears. Obviously the question is does the 4.30 gear come with the Tow Package? Can the Off Road come with the tow package? I looked at my local dealer and it is hard to find, on their website, whether a particular Tacoma comes with the tow package.
I know I can probably look at a truck and see the additional cooler next to the radiator.

Anyway I am debating whether to get the TRD Sports or Off road. I kinda want the softer ride but who knows.

I have the 2006 Tacoma Base v6 and have had it for nearly 10 years this Jan. Looking at something new but the payment is a killer lol.

??? thought all factory TRD Manual shift are 4:30, and Auto 3:91 ( or they were when I purchased my 2016).. Should be able to get tow package on either TRD model.

4.30 Ratio with larger ring gear for Manuals, Tow Package is on all V6's.

Well that makes it easier for me then. I am pretty sure the Tacoma I saw was automatic had the 4.30 gears but will have to go and check again. Some of these OR are priced the same as Sports and even found a dealer that had the SR5 priced like a Sport. I suspect some of these dealers are pricing some models based on what they have on the lot and need to move fast.
I normally like the Access Cab so I can get the longer bed but the DC helps haul more people. As with everything...there is a trade off.
And I will not be going off roading extensively but ride on trails and the like. A lot of decision to make. But regardless...I will be spending around $33K...

can't speak for you or your expectations - my TRDOR 4x4 Auto had 3:91. 4:30 in the auto would be so much nicer than 3:91. I ended up going to after market 4:88. Proper Gearing can make driving so much nicer.

I believe 4 Cylinder Automatics have 4.30 Gears too, but will not have a Towing Package. The Sport and the Off Road have the exact same MSRP if you are comparing like models.

Sport ride is harsh compared to the OR

If you don't intend on upgrading suspension - go with the OR.

If you want the larger heavier duty rear AND the Sport you need to get the manual

The auto has the 8" rear in the Sport and no locker.

Not sure why they are priced the same as the OR with less gear... well cept for the Skewp and painted fender flares. OR has a much tamer ride. Sport is harsh, specially off road even dirt roads specially. You may want a mouth guard with stock Sport suspension and no load in bed.

This thread answered my exact question! Wife bought my truck while I'm out of country and was worried she didn't get the tow package, not that I have anything to tow but just nice to know I could!

Over exaggerate much? Sport suspension is just fine on road. A little bumpy off road, I don't recommend it if your planning on doing any offloading, but if your like me and using the truck for a daily, sport fits the bill quite fine!

I have a Sport and I upgraded my suspension. Night and day diff. I went stiffer everything and the ride AFTER upgrade was WAY WAY smoother and softer and nicer and well you get the idea.

Sport was OK sorta, if I carried some bales of hay in the bed to tame that bounce you didn't notice yet. Throw 2 bales of hay in the bed, one beside each rear wheel about 1/2 way back. You will notice the smoother ride.

Have you considered a Double Cab Long Bed? The best of both worlds and gives the truck a more proportioned look.
