my sarcasm font was broken too. by down i also meant up (less preload) got a little bro lean going on with both sides in now. no bueno.

just need to change one brake line and bleed still.

    Info for verifying shocks.

shock length at full droop is 25.5 inches (which is just shy axle bind)

5.5 inches of shock shaft fully extended. kit must not use 8inch coilovers then unless theres an internal spacer :notsure:

Need to let off some preload to be able to check compressed height still

Not sure if this 100% applies but I remember reading that somehow with the hub design there is no way to get a full length coil over passed the CV on second gens like you can on first gens, hence the reason they have that extended tip at the bottom to act as a spacer. So that takes away shock travel

wouldnt it be internally limited to not extend past that? thats length with zero load on the coilover.

but makes sense because the clearance is small and a axle is rubbing on one shock. granted i havent aligned it at all yet (one side clearly has more room)

It isn’t the extension but rather just how much physical space (or lack there of).

Top picture is first gen coil overs, bottom is second gen. Look at the tip at the bottom of the coil overs. On the first gen there is essentially none because there is enough room around the axle to fit an entire coil/shock. But on the second gen there isn't, so they take away shock travel and put that extended tip in to make up for the length.

I think it was @jberry813 that explained it one time on here.

yeah i get that..i just thought most LT kits used an 8in coilover. but maybe they get limited whenever you buy them for specific kits

well i thought that the Fox shocks are NOT the correct ones for the 2nd gen tacoma. it rubs the axles on uptravel and tie rods at full lock (at ride height, dont even get me started how bad it would be droop/bump). not to mention only 5.5 inches of shock travel vs 8. i cant just change the lower eyelet without losing travel compared to the MT setup.

spent 2 evenings trying to drill through 1 lower shock bolt (they were frozen) so now im cutting the shock misalignment to get them out. Plan is to then figure out how to get the rest of the bolt out of the arms.

as soon as i get 1 shock out ill cycle the kit and order a proper 8 inch LT pair. Most likely going ADS again.

no idea i havent had it aligned since i want to get this fixed first. i played with the cams and it doesnt make a difference on clearance between shock/axle or shock/tie rod.

Hmm.. I remember one other truck having that problem too but he was at like 0 degrees of caster. Hopefully the right coil overs is the trick

yeah i thought that might happen, but with the rear cam maxed and the front opposite it wasnt any real difference. then i tried opposite for shits and giggles.

also i would guess a MT/LT shock to have the same length lower rod end but that isnt the case i have.

    i give up :frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty::frusty:

1st picture compares rod ends (LT to MT)

3rd is shock top hat to eyelet extended aka droop(~25.5 inches)

4th is shock top hat to eyelet compressed aka bump(~19.75 inches)

5&6 are wheel travel measurement so 12 inches minus 1/2in for axle bind

Yikes. I’m at 11.5” on midtravel. 12.5” without a shock

isnt that the same as the 1st gen tacomas?

just so we arent comparing apples to oranges. cause a stock 2nd gen is ~8, MT is ~9 that im aware of

after a long week of verifying and cutting/drilling/hammering a bolt out i was finally able to get the shock back in with a new bolt and lower eyelet uniball.

its the correct shock for the application just odd lower rod end. i guess i just need to tweak the alignment more.
