    Exhaust is 100% stock.
I was just getting into that part of the thread and was starting to doubt that I really needed the FPR mod. I’ll leave the jet out and reference VAC for now. I’m still trying to figure out which WB/boost gage I want to go with. Im leaning toward the PLX DM 6. I’m running a scanguage for all the other stuff.

I’m thinking the money would be better spent there than on an intake. That’s why I was wondering if they’re really worth it? I’m already running the AFE dry filter in the stock intake with the charcoal filter removed.

I had that spark knock noise reflash back in 2014 so there was no option for the TRD tune for me. I received a BD tuner that was specific for the SC Tacoma so the “stock” tune is what I loaded and did not change it for the 2.85 pulley.

    Crap.... u got bullydog tune?
Get the wideband asap, get the boost gauge and intake later

Just throwing more parts on the truck for fun without knowing if the existing tune is safe is like russian roulette

It’s not the BD tune. It’s Magnuson’s tune which is nearly identical to the TRD and they just use the BD to deliver it. The actual tune developed by BD for the SC Tacoma is whole other pile of feces. That one is not in my truck.

Reguardless of what time you run, running without a wideband and boost guage is silly. Especially when not running it in 100% stock form.

Nearly all of my driving is between 2500ft and 9000ft. Even in winter, I’m nowhere near standard at sea level. At the moment, running lean is not a problem and I’m not towing anything.

A wide band will probably be my next project, and I will for sure have one before I start towing a trailer.

Being up at higher altitudes I was just wondering if the intake was really worth it without doing anything to the exhaust. I’m not touching the exhaust because to me it sounds like a bunch of squirrels trying to claw their way out of a metal trash can. No way to make that 4.0 sound good.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
Seems kinda silly going through all that is involved with running a S/C to not open up the exhaust. With a good sized muffler and a couple resonators you can make it sound descent, and not too loud.
From my reading every truck is slightly different, even with matching mods. The WB AFR should be required... I can vouch for the PLX devices, I even run the PLX bluetooth dongle for the Torque App.

Yeah, the stock setup is def holding back some ponies.
as for exhaust sound I agree with you, Ive been thru so many exhaust configurations its hard to remember.... But I finally found MY happy place.
May not work for others, but thats because after you get the sizing/headers/ypipe figured out, SOUND is subjective.
finding the "right" muffler/mufflers is a personal choice.

To answer your question on the afe intake if it will make a difference while having stock exhaust, the answer is absolutely. It was worth the money and the bonus for me was that it made the whine louder. It increased throttle response and power through out the range. I did this with stock exhaust after a couple of months of installing the supercharger. It makes a difference. I would get a wide band for sure though.

I am just down the road from you and I can tell you that you are running rich, but how rich seems to be different with every truck and every elevation change. But yes switching from the factory intake with a high flow filter to a AFE stage 2 does make a difference. It took my AFR's from the high 7's to the low 8's. Yes I am absurdly rich. But that did make a difference. And my sensor took a shit on me so I am not sure if going from the AFE dry filter to the new Donaldson filter helped or hindered my AFR. Back to the Denso sensor searching for my Innovate.

What did you end up with for your exhaust? Sounds pretty similar to mine. URD spec.U headers and spec.U equal length exhaust with two MagnaFlow 59955 cats just before the merge to one pipe and a 18" glasspack between the muffler and the tip.

I've been eyeing the Borla X-1 series. Never heard it on a Tacoma.

If it's not too much trouble, could you post a clip of what it sounds like in the cab at speed?

Lmao, i just bought 4 new side doors (sd card cover) for my gopro. Without them, the slightest bump corrupts the whole file. They should be here on the 26th.

Ill try and remember to do this tho... i dont have many vids of the current exhaust setup and also dont think i have any at highway speed inside the cab.

You know its not the borla kit right? Its a frankenstein. The only borla part is the xr1 after the ypipe.... its super small.

    Thanks man, I'd appreciate it.

Lol yeah I know. I had a SI/SO Borla X-1 on my Silverado. Lopped off the stock oil drum of a muffler and replaced it with the X-1.

actually I found a clip of me merging on the highway from a yield.
I had my lady, a ton of luggage, and my dog with me so I was easing on the gas to about 70 and then maintained.

For some reason the clip seems much louder than I recall my truck sounding. (maybe the location of the camera near the windshield capturing resonance?). I have some drone from the super44, but I cant recall it being quite this loud. Windows up and ac on

If it plays in potato mode, the video was just uploaded and sometimes it takes a few minutes for youtube to play the clips in 1080p
