7 pin wire explained

    Hey guys,
    I'm trying to hardwire a tailgate led bar and having trouble figuring what wire from the plug underneath the truck powers what.Here is a pic,from the top it's purple,white with a black line,black,thin blue,thick blue,green and thin white to the center.Which one is the ground,etc....Thanks in advance for any help with this. 20180618_155448.jpg

    If your talking about the back of the trailer plug:

    Your probably looking for green for tails, white/black for ground and then purple for left turn and light blue right turn.

    Looks like you have the 7 way "traditional" harness. If its been installed properly. You can see the"blue" wire (purple in your case) bordered by a green and a white wire
    but thats just a guess since none of the rest of the wires are the appropriate colors. Regardless of the color, each blade should have the same function. Just take a volt meter to them and see which trigger turn and tail lights and you should have your answer

    Are you running wire back to the battery or just plan to power the lights from that socket?

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    Is the is an LED strip below the tailgate or something else?

    If below the tailgate, what is it that you want to drive the LEDs?

    Tailights? Brake lights? Turns?

    A simple $5 HF DVM or a 12v test light will confirm which wires support which circuits.

    Even if you have a wiring diagram, it's always good to test. Just in case.
