Id venture to say fast travel will still be in. I think they mentioned the map size is 4 times bigger than FO4's (pre DLC at least?). Don't see any reason they wouldn't allow fast travel from town to town. The sleeping/waiting I hadn't even considered

I Know a lot of people here aren't fans of Battle Royale, but I am going to compare the map size to battle royale games, just for the sheer number of players on the map and because of how many people have atleast tried one of those.

To reiterate: THIS IS NOT A COMPARISON OF GAMEPLAY, ONLY MAP AND PLAYER COUNT. FO76 IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A BATTLE ROYALE.

PUBG (original map)- 8km2 64km2 with about 32km2 as land. (100 players)**Thank you /u/Kittelsen for the correction

    Fortnite - 5km2 (100 players)

    Fallout 4 (playable area only) - 9.33km2

Fallout 76 - stated as 4 times the size of Fallout 4. (currently 24 players)

So think about that. In pubg and fortnite, if you don't land in a "hot zone" you can literally spend the entire game looting without even seeing a single person until the map forces you in close enough. You can easily get to a top 10 if you play it safe.

Now picture a map FOUR TIMES the size of Fallout 4 which is already almost double Fortnite's number. But picture it with A FOURTH of the players. PUBG and Fortnite have 100 people and you can go 20 minutes without even seeing a soul! They have stated in interviews that they are looking at about 24 players in a server for 76.

Now Fallout 76 isn't a battle royale, you arent actively looking for people. You are questing, building, playing events with friends etc, etc. So you have a game over 4 times the size with 4 times less players and only a handful of those are probably going to be the type to pvp on sight. By the time they travel to you, you will be long gone.

People have nothing at all to worry about, and even if you run into a person, remember what Pete Hines said about PVP:

I said in an interview PvP is kinda like issuing a chalienge to someone. If you don’t want to deal w them they can’t keep killing you over and over.

    https://twitter.com/DCDeacon/status/1006544156414566400

All and all it seems like the type of game that will have hotspots of players, but for those who want to do it all alone, there will be plenty of map to help you stay away.

    EDIT:

/u/Kittelsen game me the correct numbers on PUBG.

The thing to understand with PUBG though again is that the 32km2 of playable land is only playable for the first few minutes until the circles start hitting and the area gets smaller and smaller. Fallout 76 will still have a bigger play area than PUBG and it will not shrink with time.

The better comparison here would be to Fortnite because Fortnite, like Fallout, does not have vehicles, so all traversing will be on foot.

The point still stands that you are playing with far less people on a map that is 4 times the size of a map that is already almost double what Fortnite is, without vehicles and with a ton of NPCs that are going to slow you down and get in your way most likely on every long journey you go. The map is also not going to get smaller as you go and every player (1/4 of a battle royale game) is not going to be out to pvp everyone they come across.

I want to reemphasize that this game is nothing like a battle royale game, and I was only giving the comparisons because these are maps that people generally know and they have a high player count on them.

Psh, the way F3 went about it was honestly the best. Very limited availability (special skill tree had to meet criteria in order to unlock certain perks), lv cap wasn’t infinite it was like lv 30, you could only choose 1 perk every 2 lvs; that’s the epitome of what a rpg is, choosing your path and planning it out...what perk you need to unlock at lv 20 etc...

it still is. its all about what is more useful for the level and gameplay then later focusing on building the tank maxing everything out with grinding imo

The leveling isn’t even exponential. The amount of xp it take to get from lv 5 to lv 6 is basically the same as going from 136 to lv 137. Without mods of course. Picking a perk after every level till you have them all is so cookie cutter just like F4’s storyline: go there, shoot this, go there, shoot that.

Which is why I reiterate NV had the best scheme of being an actual rpg and dictating how you want your character to be and how the story will shape up.

that literally is every rpg game where you can select skills. you get to define your character and play style.

granted ill agree the story was very go there shoot that. but you still had a choice as to how the game ended

    • Reiterated that they don't want the game to be just PVP, but that people can RP as anything they want. Just like running into a group of hostile raiders in Fallout 4, you might run into hostile players. They might also be traders, or just wastelanders. The difference is the game won't tell you. You have to discover their intentions for yourself.
    • You never lose your progression or stuff. Death is not supposed to be a big negative.
    • You can't nuke each other. You can nuke an area of the map. This will warn nearby players who have time to leave if they want. You can't target an individual.

    • Getting nukes isn't easy - finding all the pieces first, and then accessing the launch site is not as easy as walking in.

    • Nukes have some quest related plot for why the exist and why they should be used. For a period of time they create a high level zone, they're designed for endgame resource gathering.

    • You want people acting as raiders, traders, settlement builders, nomads to fill up the game world.

    • There's a "revenge system" - an incentive for killing someone who killed you. Not many details on this.

    • The game will change constantly - first in beta then at release and afterwards based on player feedback.

    • Stuff from one character (progression and items) stays with that character across any server.

    • Can have multiple characters.

    • Bethesda are playing the game internally "for the next month" so the BETA may not be any time in July.

    • Free small and large DLC and new content after launch.
Also from a different interview, when you sneak your marker disappears from the map!https://twitter.com/fallout/status/1008767550212190212?s=21

Not a lot of new info, but a few things cleared up.

true, but lots of stuff that hasn't been explained in the videos/interviews so far.

how's the fast travel going to work?
    how's sleeping going to work?
    more info on pvp
better explanation of CAMP placement when coming back onto a server and someone is already there (auto move to another location/free placement wherever you want it to go/etc)

    BS like that.

should find out next month during the beta.

Hines (I believe it was him anyways) stated that Bethesda is planning on keeping the FO:76 servers running in perpetuity... so they're in this for the long haul.

Not another Rust bust... unless it completely blows.

I'm not even bothering to ask myself those questions. I want the surprise to be honest. I feel like I'm less in suspense with the more information I find out; I want to be screaming like a little girl when the B.E.T.A. opens up and not view it as old news.

    WELL NO SHIT.

Just ordered five of the remaining ten.

    You can be a raider.

    You can be a woman.

You can be a bleeding tampon.

You can be anything you want.

The key, if you're going to play as a polarizing character, will be finding players who will match your play style.

    Good bye more money.

Speaking of money, I might have an extra Power Armor edition if anyone is interested.
