the atlas currently 2.73-1 and 3.0-1. i will be installing a 2.28-1 in front of it for the reasons listed below so that's a total of 18.7-1 with an auto in front of it. Gonna need some 42" red label BFG crawlers.:devil:

yes but i need to move my Tcase further back so i can achieve better drive line angles. This will help my front dive line last longer. also i haven't done anything to my truck in like 3 years I need projects.

I don't know for sure but it's been said that the hero case wont even fit between the first gen frame rails.. also it's nice having all these gearing options.

Just a quick note, may be in previous threads but hope this helps someone.

Building my crawlbox i decided to spend a few extra bucks and put new bearings in there while i was at it rather than use the originals from 198? (Probably 85-89 for mine)
Bought an input bearing, counter shaft bearing, pocket needle bearing and the coupler needle bearing but wanted new c clips too as they are really stiff and my whimpy snap ring pliers needed the aid of a small screw driver. Even if you dont put new bearings in you will have re use these.
These proved hard to find but Davez offroad supply had both the inner c clips for the input and counter shaft on their site for $7.50 a pop.
Nice peace of mind as i would hate for a clip to pop off inside the crawl box!

Alright, whats the general consenus for:

1.) Sealing up the crawl box and adapters. I have gaskets, permatex grey, and the right stuff. I was thinking of massaging the right stuff on both sides of the gaskets and using them. I know leaks are common so trying to hedge my bets.

2.) Grease on the coupler. Assembly lube? Heavy axle grease? Lighter synthetic grease? Blend of assembly and grease? Ive read both are the 'right' way.

You’re good on number one. For number two I just used synthetic grease.

You're going to get leaks no matter how well you seal it up. Do what you can and just live with them. I just resealed my tcase to crawlbox mating surface and still have a slight weap.

I used never sieze on my couplers. It was still in there when I pulled the tcase a couple of weeks ago.

    1. This seems to be the best method, factory gaskets + right stuff coating. If your box/adapter has dowel pins, be sure to use them.

    2. It seems that anti seize was a common use without issue, some newer crawlbox adapters couplers sit in fluid. Ref post #444 in this thread.

I ended up going with https://www.amazon.com/Honda-HN-08798-9010-MOLY-PASTE/dp/B0083BWUYW
"- Primary Use – Part assembly; running in; as a press-fitting lubricant where high temperature is a factor. - Special Characteristics – Wider and higher operating temperature range than organic oil based pastes; extreme loads; low speeds.
    - Physical Form – Black, soap thickened, silicone fluid based paste containing more than 60% MoS2.
    - Applications – Lubricating during running-in of gears, splines, journal bearings, cams; reducing torque in tightening threads and bolts; lubricating bearing shafts, O-rings, packings and seals, brake assemblies; press-fitting.
    - Temperature Range – Solids from –50 to 750 degrees Fahrenheit (-45 to 399 degrees Celsius); base oil from –40 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 232 degrees Celsius)."

i found the best way to seal everything up is basically do it in stages. do adapters to the crawlbox one day, then put the crawl box to the transmission and then the next day put the tcase to the crawl box. this allows the ultra grey to set/cure with out having to do with too much weight. then put gear oil in it a day later. last time i took everything apart i did this and have almost no leaks. infact, i think most my leaks are coming from the shifters.

What do you guys do for the noise and heat from the tunnel? I am thinking about dynamat and some thermal insulation. All my boots are tight and tunnel is sealed well.
