Most people are gonna start by saying whyy.. I have a crashed/rolled 2012 tundra that runs and drives and want to tak the motor and drop it into a 2004 tacoma. What are the biggest issues with doing this? Has anyone else done it? Will the motor and trans fit? Let me here everyone's thoughts.

    Got engine transmission and ecm...?!

Wonderful now you have to figure out a way to fab everything up to the Taco frame.

Please let me know how this turns out as it sounds rather awesome.

I think the biggest problem is getting it to actually fit with the frame and the engine compartment then getting a fan and radiator. Then theres the transmission which is considerably larger and getting it to fit then theres the drive shafts that are also way bigger in diameter so theres going to be custom drive shafts. Thats just off the top of my head.

maybe it would fit with a small body lift?

Honestly it would be easier to just put the Tacoma body on the Tundra. If you’re looking to swap the Tundra components you’re looking wiring, fabrication, and trial and error for days.

Anything is possible with a lot of welding and fabrication.

Doctors are trying to do head transplants right now. I think a Tacoma body on a Tundra frame is very plausible.

@COMAtized99 did it with the older version of the Tundra 4.7 but with the 2012 you're looking at different ECM/components that all need to report back in order to run. time is your only ally :)

I think the head transplant sounds more plausable... and easier.

Yeah right.. Guys who are capable of a v8 engine swap don't make posts asking if it's possible or not.

The biggest issue I see is physical size of all the UR engines. The dual VVTi heads are massive. Just take some basic front to back, and side to side measurements. Compare to your engine compartment now.

Argree with Coma, UR's are massive and have wide angles. You'd probably end up with no fenders and a custom rad support by the time you were done.

I've thought about taking donar tundra engines into other cars but they have such a large foot print that its not worth it.

LS1 are famous due to the tight packaging.

Possible, sure, but honestly, picturing it in my head, it would look hella funky.

Think about how wide, and long the average tundra is, and compare it to how narrow and short length wise our gen Tacoma's are..

I am going to put a 1UR-FE into a 2nd Gen Tacoma. I plan on using a gx460 drivetrain. The GX460 is sold at a GX400 in china with the 1GR-FE. The engine mounts are very similar and I wouldn't be surprised the 1UR-FE bolts into the Tacoma. Additionally what I have found that a Tacoma automatic A750F and the GX460 A760F share the same bell housing. I plan on using the A760F trans. Essentially this means that the 1GR-FE and 1UR-FE have the same bolt pattern on the back of the block.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
The bellhousings are different if I remember right. But they can be swapped between the two transmissions.
The 1gr starter is on the driver side, all the UR engines are on the passenger side.

Good catch, well it shouldn't be a problem in my case considering the GX transmission is going in also.
