I went back to Phoenix to visit some family a week ago. When in town something hit my windshield and created over a 6” crack instantly. When I got the chance I contacted my insurance company to open a claim hoping to get it fixed ASAP. They obviously perfer a specific company for windshield replacements and after dealing with the insurance I was told I’ll be getting a call to set up a time for the replacement. This happened on a Friday late afternoon and of course they weren’t open and were closed Saturday. After waiting all of Monday for the call I called the insurance the next day to figure things out. They set me up with a on site appointment replacement and figured I was good. About hour later I got a call from the company to do the replacement and they explained to me that they can’t get a new windshield for 1-2 weeks and that I also need to take it to one of there shops. As I’m sure you all know the new 18’s come standard with lane departure active cruse and that collision prevention safety features, witch is why I wanted the 18’ over a 17’. Well come to find out there is a camera behind the mirror that all that relies on and needs to be recalibrated. I have a trip coming up and couldn’t wait that long to get my windshield replaced and set it up to have the dealer do the replacement. That was today. I dropped my truck off at 7:00am hopefully to have it back before 1:00. Well that was a pipe dream. I got my truck back at 5:00pm and it’s still not done. They couldn’t get the recalibration done because “I have a lift and it’s throwing off the sensors.” I have to bring back the truck back another day so they’ll be able to contact Toyota to figure out how to get it calibrated. I know there’s no way to provent things from hitting your windshield while driving but I just wanted to give all you 18’ owners a heads up.

I was going to do some off roading and I also don’t like driving around with a cracked windshield. I don’t drive crazy to get pulled over but I also don’t want to give them any reason to do so.
The windshield alone is over $500

Can you snap a pic of the camera? I didn’t know 18’a had a camera up there. I thought lane departure and warning were all done through the front sonar in the grill and radar sensors in the bumper.

The unit has to be detached from the windshield and attached to the new one.

Calibrated everytime, it doesn't take long but now a dealer has to be involved. You need a techstream, a SST measurement tool, and access to TIS to calibrate it.

Taco's used to have the cheapest windshields haha.

Damn, my 16’s windshield got hit by hail on Monday, making me glad I don’t have all those bells n whistles. Heck, I even chose for the replacement to come without the gobro mount.

    ...stuff
Bring it to one of those places that drill a hole at the ends of the crack and inject the glue in it. You won’t have to worry about the crack getting bigger and it’s only $40 or so. That’ll hold you over for your trip and protect it while you’re off-roading.

Then get your new windshield when it arrives and you’ll be set.

Just and FYI for anyone replacing in the future. The installer removed the camera sensor from the bracket but did not unplug it. He just left in hanging for a few minutes, installed the new windshield put the camera in the bracket and this eliminated any recalibration. He told me most all installers automatically unplug when it is not necessary.
