    I'm trying to remember...I replaced my pads a while back and I think you DO use 1 vented shim & 1 solid shim on the inner pad against the pistons. The vented/ grilled shim goes in between the solid shim and the pad. And then one solid shim on the outside pad. I think thats how it went. I believe the vented shim dissipates some heat from the caliper piston. I may be wrong...I'm old & forgetful
