We have a small dog that roams the back seat. We have to lockout the window controls as she can step on them and roll down the window.

What annoys me is that the lockout switch also shuts off the front passenger side window so now the wife or myself can't operate that window. What was Toyota thinking? No other manufacturer does 3 window lockout. I wonder if there is a dealer programming option before I start rewiring the door switch.

Subaru definitely does the same thing. My bet is you'll have to rewire.

Every vehicle with power windows and a lock that I have ever driven has worked the same as my Tacoma.

My 1st gen did exactly the same as the 3rd gen so does the wife's Rav. Her Kia had the same lockout behavior.

I agree it is a minor annoyance, as I do the same thing with my dog. However, this is not a big enough "fish" for me to even care about trying to "fry".

The 1 or 2 trips a week that Boomer is in one of the vehicles are never problematic due to windows. Slippery leather seats, supper slick plastic seat backs, and 90 lbs of roaming happy - OMG we are goin' someplace - puppy are far greater concerns.

Each trip creates extra work in removal of drool streaks from each open window, nose are on the glass, and the perpetual "how the F can he still have any left"hair.

Is anyone developing a roomba for vehicles? Maybe a "Car-ba"?

Yeah every vehicle I’ve had with power windows does the same, and i have a small dog that likes the windows down i got one of the backseat hammock so I don’t worry about him falling off seat and i also use a seat belt leash so he can stand up to window but he can’t get up more than his front legs over door

Mine is the same, I wouldn't even call it an inconvenience but it is what it is. I believe at least one of my older Fords, the Buttonwood lock out all the passenger windows, but I still was able to operate them from driver seat panel. I liked that little bit better

One thing that’s annoying is the only way to operate the windows is to start the engine! They’ll operate if you shut the truck off if you don’t open the doors, but when in accessory mode they don’t operate makes no sence

Push the start button twice and you’ll be able to operate the windows.

Would it be easier to heat and form a little black ABS plastic cover for the switch to "dog proof" it, than to try and rewire the switches?
