Yup, @Blackout14 has it right. There is a gear and pickup on the rear output of the transfer case. The 4Runner case I just put in didn’t have the gear so I swapped the one from my old fj case into it.

It may actually be possible to trace down the speed sensor wires and adapt the manual transmission sensor. I might have to look into that.

I had a blast in Ouray last week. The trails were very mild, but my fear of heights certainly came into play. The beauty around every corner up there was definitely special.

Here are a few pics from the trip.

The first day we ran Corkscrew Gulch up and then down Poughkeepsie. Of course we had to hang out at the wall for a bit to watch folks give it a shot. I ran the right, left, and tried the middle. The last pic in the group is the tree that munched my fender. There's a vertical rock slab on the left as you come down from the wall. I made it up though.

The next day we ran Black Bear pass. Let's just say that ol' Smokey was a touch wide for BB. There were a few places where I had the outside of a tire hanging off the edge of the trail. That's one step you don't want to take.

We too BB into Telluride and then over Imogene back into Ouray.

Can someone give me a ballpark of how much to convert to SAS?

20-30k I think is a good ball park to start. Maybe a little high or low depending on some things you use but that would be done properly.

Mines 90% fabbed/one off parts besides the front shackle hangers. And I'm well over 25 into mine. But this is also redoing the front axle (and now the rear) and going from 2wd-4wd. Initial swap was still 20k.

I think to build something an atlas, 40s and one tons, linked front and rear with coilovers can be done for 20 with good fab skills and sales on stuff (ie ruffstuff) 25 if you put an ls with a 4l80e or th400. Not including the cost of the vehicle though.

I think it's best to start with a shell/body and build it up from there. That's my next build plan at least.

Yeah, the I can SAS my rig for 10k might have been true back in the day when we were putting first gens on leafs, but not so much now. It all really depends on how built you want to be. A set of axles are cheap, but you're really just buying the housings and filling them with all new parts.

You're going to land in the 15k to 35k price range for parts alone. That range varies wildly depending on just how much of a build you're going for, then you have to add in a sizeable chunk for labor. There's a ton of work involved in cutting all of the stock suspension off and starting over.

That being said, I'd be happy to SAS your truck for you @tony2018. Feel free to send me a PM if you'd like to discuss the details.

One day Kase's taco will be getting the Trail Toys treatment. Much better thought out of a kit than others available. A stretched single cab on 40s will be sweet.
