‘18, 2000 miles and I have an issue with the trans grinding when shifting from second to third while in 4lo. Anyone else have this issue?

Also noticed the clutch engagement isn’t smooth when shifting into 5th and 6th around 2-4K rpm. Kinda feels like the clutch is being dumped when I’m engaging it slowly while shifting into those gears.

It’s been to the dealer and apparently “it’s mechanically fine” and yes, I know how to drive a manual.

4lo is meant for no more the 5mph. Use 4hi to go faster.

Maybe you mean the diff lock? I run 4 lo in 5th and 6th gear pretty often on trails

Mine will grind if I'm not careful with the footwork when upshifting in low range. IIRC, you gotta pay more attention to your revs and let them fall between gears. I also let the synchros do the work and not force the shifter.

In other words, I don't believe you have an issue.

Are you referring to the "thump" that you feel in those two gears? I have it, and I guess it's normal for this truck. I've never felt it in any of my other 12+ manually transmission vehicles I've owned, but there's no noise associated with it, so I'm not concerned.

You can use 4lo to go faster than that, I run 4lo up to 4th gear at ~20 mph regularly on trails. RPMs never exceed 2.5-3k or else it's time for 4hi. Also depends on terrain.

5th to 6th is a tricky change in this truck, mostly because the gap between the two isn't as big as the other gears. Most guys here skip 5th completely.

I've driven manual transmissions nearly all my adult life, and this manual really took some getting used to. You've only got 2K on yours... you need to drive it more to figure it out.

I never use 4LO in anything other than 1st, so I can't help you there.

Yeah I don’t have a Probelm with the footwork....even coasting, no throttle, clutch in, no rpms, it grinds from 2-3 and 3-2. I’ll update with the dealer response next week.

if by thump you mean that it feels like the clutch is being poped and occurs around 2-4k rpm, yes. i've read some other threads on the 1-2 thuds and haven't experienced anything there, just 4-5 and 5-6.

I'd say NOT normal. This truck's MT is a very smooth and very easy to use. Maybe need an adjustment

Same, if I don't get it just right on those upshifts I'll get the clunk/thump. IMO it's in the driveline somewhere aft of the tranny, as it goes into gear fine and clunks on clutch release.
