Yeah, it would sound like a belt slipping and whining and would be very annoying and embarrassing when sitting in traffic or a drive thru or something. Mine literally had me often looking around for the old beater that needed some serious maintenance before I realized it was MY truck making the squealing noises. If you start to hear that, then get video of it happening and take it into the dealer

It does make the sound, it's just not really loud yet. Sometimes I can hardly hear it, and others it is definitely there.
Since some on here have gotten them replaced, then the new ones started doing it to, I decided to wait til it got worse to get it done.

They gave me a loaner for the differential whine TSB when they did it, why not for the HPFP TSB

Because it probably was going to take longer than a HPFP replacement :notsure:. And you seem like "that guy". Give him a rental and get him the F out of our hair.

This thread keeps coming up over and over.
    You. Will. Not. Fix. It.

All of the new Toyota HPFP do it. It's a known issue on the FRS/BRZ/86 too. They will replace it and the new one will do the same thing. After many years of testing with the FRS/86, the only thing that helps is to run a tank of non-ethanol through the tank every handful of fill-ups to lubricate the pump. Especially when it's really warm in the summer.

I got info that the manufacturer actually made a physical change to the HPFP. That's what the service advisor, tech, and shop foreman told me. Curious if it was such a known issue with the FRS/86 why they would STILL be replacing the pump for the same exact pump? Not likely. Also explain to me why they replaced the pumps in early 2016 per TSB then pulled that TSB, and now have a new active TSB for our Tacomas ? Mine. Has. Been. Fixed. CHIRP. Not "noise". It's a specific sound.

I run ethanol free gas ~90% of the time, and my pump chirps loud on hot days...

The pump design and part number was changed at least 3 times while I had my FRS. Everyone kept having it changed out to the new one and it still does it. Dealerships just stopped doing the swaps.

and yes, it's a "chirp". It's so iconic that there are Tshirts made for the FRS/BRZ/86. Trust me, we all know exactly what you're talking about and no, you can't fix it.

yes, and yours will come back too. Just wait. lol. Everyone that gets it replaced says "MINE QUIT! GO GET YOURS DONE TOO" Then it comes back in a month or two. I'm only laughing because I've seen literally hundreds of threads just like yours. They all have the same thing happen. Just enjoy the silence for now.

Not every single 3rd gen HPFP chirps. This means you CAN have a defective model pump. Not mechanically failing but creating that chirp. This proves that a replacement can make that noise go away.

Sup gents, got a gnarly squeal all the sudden, rpm dependent, thinking it might be in line with this HPFP situation...

I went in for a oil change today and my service guy told me he heard a chirping noise so he got the master tech to listen and he said I could get the tsb for the fuel pump so they ordered it today and it's on back order. Sounds nothing like the video posted so I'm surprised they didnt say it was normal. First time I havent had to bring something to there attention. So proud of them lmao

So I went with mine and they said they wouldn’t replace it and it’s normal. I went back the next day and brought the TSB and they said it’s not the tsb for my engine. Then they tried to act like they didn’t hear the noise the second time in came. So now they told me to leave the car so it can cool down and they’re going to listen to it again. My factory warranty is almost over. I have another 300 miles. Any suggestions for me to make them replace it

Well this is my issue with my truck started awhile back and been on the hunt for this forever trying to figure it out thought it was a bad pulkey/idle or maybe the water pump/timing chain nope.

Sadly replacing it doesn't seem to help in the long term from what I am reading. Might have to rename the taco to grasshopper now!

Has anyone tinkered with an aftermarket fix for this? Sounds like it might be worth installing a new part ourselves so we don't have to keep going back and forth.
