I’m going to test drive a 4runner and 2 gen to see if they’re any better. But getting into the seat in my 3 gen is a drag, and the wheel seems way too close to my legs even in the highest and most extended telescoped positions. After two years like this I think it’s getting to be deal breaker!

You wont like the 2nd gen if you think the ergos suck on the 3rd gen, 3rd is laid out much better and fit/finish is significantly better, had a 08, 11 and 15 night and day better in my 17.

I liked the 2nd gen so much, except for how cheap the door part is where your arm rests. It broke over time but I guess 10 years and 180k will do that. Im indifferent about the 3rd gen.. not great, not bad. I like that I can put my arm down and touch the shifter though, I can't stand cars that keep it way out of reach.

6' 2" here and I agree the steering wheel is too close to legs but its really only an issue for me when getting into the truck. When I am seated I have plenty of room. My only complaint is that I cant see traffic lights more often than not if I am first in line. Roofline cuts too much visibility off on tall objects. I have to crane my neck or view the reflection off the hood.

The 4Runner’s ergonomics are better. If I could have bought a 4Runner with a manual transmission, that’s what I’d be driving.

Having said that, I didn’t think the Tacoma’s were so bad that I couldn’t live with it.

I can feel the lower crossbar in the upright of the seat against my butt and it's pretty uncomfortable. It's liveable but could be better for sure.

I'm 5'11 ~185lbs thin shit and actually like the seating position, but too each his own. I hated the CR-V position, never got used to it so I said buh-bye

6'2" and I just pull the seat lever and slide the seat all the way back to get out.

The wife suggested I get an SUV when looking for this truck, my response was sure, Ill look at what ever manual transmissions I find. I didn't find one, but I would have considered the 4runner if it was.

I think the only real SUV left with a M/T is the Wrangler... If you don’t like the ergonomic of the Tacoma, I don’t recommend a Wrangler. Terrible! Maybe the Bronco will let us row our own gears?

may be the wrangler but thats more jeep less SUV, not to mention nice price tag. I had a Cherokee sport that had a manual trans before my first Taco, loved that wish I could have kept it.

I was about to say Xterra, but I had no idea they had axed it in 2015. I'm not a Nissan fan, but Xterra was cool.

As far as seating position, Tacoma is just fine by me at 5'11". Even on extended drives, I have no issues. Now, the seat cushion, or lack thereof, I had problems with, but fixed that with some covers and memory foam.

I've driven many 4Runners as well. Pretty much the same to me, except why did Toyota feel the need to put the window switches at eye level?

I’m also 5’11” but with a long torso and very thick legs. I have the steering wheel pulled all the way up, all the way out, but I have to ride with the seat too close to the dash in order to be able to reach the steering wheel comfortably. Biggest issues are with ingress/egress. If I could drop the seat about an inch or so, the whole thing would be more livable.
